Letting someone go because they are incompetent, bad with the customer, or violent is one thing. Gloating about it and reveling in their demise is a whole different thing entirely. It the difference between putting down an animal because they are very ill and putting down an animal and enjoying the experience. One is frankly sadistic.

It is easy for people who have never had to provide for themselves to speak glibly about people losing their jobs. It is easy for people to talk in theory about how much money a person has made or what they think a person's needs are, it is another to actually know.

I have had to lay off and fire people. As a manager it is ALWAYS the hardest thing I do. I hate it, every moment. Sometimes it has to happen, but you DO NOT REVEL IN IT.

Okay, I'm honestly surprised this discussion has gone so far. I don't think ANYONE is saying, "Heheh, when Scott gets fired, his life will be over! Serves him right!"

I would not be happy to see Scott go because of what it means for him as a person. I would, however, be happy in the sense that his position would be vacant for someone new to fill. Discussion about how his successor would perform aside, this would provide me with at least a glimmer of hope for the future.

So PLEASE, everybody stop over-analyzing everything. Being called cold blooded and cruel is insulting. As I have tried, and apparently failed, to stress: I would take Scott's leaving as a possibility for a better future for the park. Period.

And just a footnote: Scott hasn't even been fired! This entire discussion is based on a hypothetical situation. Next, shall we discuss what we would do if Sharknado really happened?

Joe, I don't think it's supposed to be personal. I think this is more to do with the of the name of the thread (which is in poor taste to begin with), and other comments made within this thread and various places on the forum. We have, in fact, joked about how wonderful a day it'd be when Scott get's let go, and many other jokes at his expense.

I think a few people here are building strawmen and knocking them down. There has been very little "gloating" over the prospect of Mr Gasparich's personal misfortune. As has been argued here before, as head of (and spokesperson for) the Entertainment department at BGW, Mr Gasparich is a public person and therefore his performance and continuance in that role should be considered fit matter for discussion here. I'm always wary of the desire to silence opinion, even strongly-stated opinion, about public figures. If I saw a bunch of personal rancor here, I'd disavow it... but I just don't see it.

This isn't anything new. People make terrible jokes all the time on these forums. I've pointed out before. In fact there was a whole discussion about public figures and such.

Frankly, I see some of the jokes to be cruel and usual at best. But it's not like this discussion will change anything.

While I would never make either of those statements myself, I don't see cause for alarm. Again, they didn't say, "Sweet! Scott doesn't have job anymore! Look out, unemployment line!"

Perhaps, their thought process was more along the lines of, "Hurray! This could lead to higher quality show productions at my local theme park!"

Not everybody is this vicious, cold-blooded monster some of you are making them out to be.

Hold your horses Applesauce; One, I barely know who this person is. Just adding to the conversation. Two, assuming I would laugh at the demise of another person's job loss is absurd. Notice I said "ParkFans" would celebrate, considering how much hate/bitching has been thrown around the forum about him.
