I asked one of the ride operators a few months back about this vibrating piece of crap, and he said it shouldn't close for another 5 years! :( I was like Noooo! I can't deal riding a crappy coaster that's half broken down, needing repairs, and still gives you headaches. The idea of dueling was great, but there are better woodies out there, like Thunderhead at Dollywood. Gwazi just needs to go.

There is something that should be noted whenever you talk to employees. "Take it with a grain of salt" Very rarely employees actually know what is going on. The only people that might know what's actually happen would be maintenance. And the people that actually do know what's going on would be some of the high ups.

Employees are never told the status of a ride unless they go around asking questions to various people that might know the answer.

Yeah, employees may not know everything, but it's worth knowing something rather than be clueless like the rest of the GP.

I can't say anything from a riders standpoint as I've never even been to BGT. But from reports from various people that have been, I would like to see this ride gone. Whenever I do make my way down to Florida, I will highly consider not riding Gwazi if it's still around, but i'm sure the coaster enthusiast in me will say "just get the credit."

But also judging from a layout standpoint, it seems terrible. I don't see any fun in low to the ground 45 degree banked turns. Also without it not dueling anymore would just waste my time. The land that it sits on has great potential to be great. I'm not sure about the typography or anything, but I think there can be a nice e-ticket attraction there.

Exactly, Evan. You hit the nail on the head. That rotting wooden carcass of a ride just needs to go to make way for the bigger and better! (B&M Hypercoaster gets thrown around a lot down here in Florida, because we don't have one. :( )

I strongly disagree. The charm of a true wooden roller coaster is that is will shake you to bits. Rocky Mountain Construction I-Beam wooden coasters, in my opinion, are bastardizations of the real thing. Gwazi is my favorite ride at BGT, and will remain to be so until it is taken out or replaced with I-Beam. Wooden roller coasters didn't used to be designed to be sleek and smooth, they were designed to be rough, wild, and give an out-of-control feeling. When both sides run, it's truly one of the best rides you will ever go on. I find it a shame that all people want is "bigger and faster." Yea, yea, it's cool to go 130 mph, and 400 ft. in the air. But I can do that on an airplane. If I'm riding a roller coaster, I want it to be wild and mean. Gwazi absolutely delivers that. Thus, I am upset about the fact that is may not be around much longer.

I see your point, but rough to the point where it hurts, that's way past my limits. Thunderhead at Dollywood is a better woodie in delivering those awesome near-crash experiences, and plus, it's not as compact as Gwazi is designed. The jolting on Gwazi makes me wanna hurl, but Thunderhead has speed, and well-planned curves. I'm sorry if you're a fan of woodies, but this woodie just as bad as what Son of Beast's (Even though I never rode it) condition was. Oh, on an airplane, you remain in the air until you land. No dives, loops, over-banked curves, etc. The most you'll get is turbulence. So yeah, Gwazi is just needing a Hypercoaster replace to replace it.

But, if they do extensive work to it, steel topping, and fix the neglected Tiger side, then maybe I'll consider riding it.

P.S.
Plus you have the rumors of Gwazi trains being shipped elsewhere. (BGW)

I enjoy a good, rough wooden roller coaster. Twister @ Knoebels, Grizzly @ KD, and Rolling Thunder @ Great Adventure deliver just the right amount of roughness for the ride to be enjoyable. Gwazi was just too much with the PTCs, it was just too rough to be enjoyable even with it dueling. The MiFly's haven't done anything to cure its roighness and now it's restricted to running only one side. It's been neutered worse than Dragon Challenge, which is a feat very hard to pull off.

I use to work at BGT and I miss GWAZI yeah it's rough and with both sides running it was unique just like Lightning Racer at Hershey. Wooden coasters are fun and thrilling due to their design especially waiting in que and watching the wooden supports just shake as the train went past. Whatever happens to GWAZI it will hopefully be for the best. So many rumors and negative things, but it was a awesome ride

Gwazi is always my first ride in the park. I enjoy it. It is rough, but has never hurt me, as some coasters do.

No news other than it's current scheduled refurbishment (running through Sept 15th).

As for rumors, have heard the same as others. Probably on its last legs, and could be torn down to make way for something new in the next few years (possibly a large roller coaster of some type). But certainly nothing official either way.
