So it’s not an hidden secret that Galaxyland has been working on a replacement for the legendary Mindbender coaster for some time now. However it’s only been recently that we’ve gotten some kind of hints about what the ride might be.

Recently we’ve seen reveals of a construction permit from December and a box from what appears to be Vekoma back in March.

However, there are now some rumblings in the coaster community. That this replacement may actually end up being a Vekoma Airtime Trebuchet. Which was revealed to be coming to Grona Lund sometime in the next few years.

While if it is true, it won’t be a clone of the ride coming to Grona Lund as it won’t fit in the space.

This could still very well be a spectacular addition to this park and turn into one of the best indoor coasters in the world

I’d love for this to be an Airtime Trebuchet. Vekoma has had some fantastic concepts lately, they’re honestly the manufacturer I’m the most interested in right now.

Hi yes, that was me on X.

It is definitely a project, almost worth removing Mindbender for. Replacing an indoor coaster of this scale with something similarly large is an unprecedented endeavor and far more than I could’ve expected from the WEM.

Three key points that I’ve gradually allowed to leak between February and now;
- It is Vekoma (public info)
- Two engineers have worked on the layout, Camiel Bilsen and Benjamin Bloemendaal
- There are very strong indications of the Airtime Trebuchet or something similar in design.

It should go without saying that it will HAVE to be custom as it’s going inside of a very constrained three-dimensional volume and must strictly stay within. You can read about it at my article here; Inside The Box: Galaxyland’s Challenging New Coaster Project - Coaster101

You’re all welcome to draw your own conclusions on the final product. It’s too soon to rank it up against other indoor coasters or even AlpenFury, and if you’ve ridden what Vekoma refers to as their sweet spot in current coaster design I wouldn’t expect a murderous experience like Intamin/RMC’s most unhinged or even the late Mindbender. That being said I think it will be quite unique for the company and a great attraction overall.

Camiel and Benjamin are two of their top concept engineers (Bloemendaal is their lead layout designer) so this should be good! Very excited to see what is announced

Growing up in Edmonton, Mindbender was my first ever big coaster. You can never truly replace a legend...but I'm thankful to know that it won't just be lackluster flats or a kiddie coaster filling in the void.

Any updates on how this new coaster is coming? Reddit hasn't had anything new since June, when we saw that the parts boxes had a Vekoma logo on them.

I'm not in Edmonton anymore so this thread is my only shot to learn about what's happening.

Don't forget about coasterforce!

Yeah, @TPoseOnTantrum has shared a couple updates over there this year, link:

Most notably he spotted a big ride hardware shipment on the way from Vekoma late last month. Basically every bit of info we know thus far about this ride is coming from @TPoseOnTantrum's Twitter from what I have seen. Worth following him over there if you're super into this project, probably.

Oh crap, I've been found. Not that I can be relied on to post consistently.

In terms of the shipment though yeah they've been getting a lot since the beginning of this month. The first delivery was 54 pieces of explicitly track and supports, the most recent was 43 total, I've yet to see photos.

Reddit comment says it’s a… NERF theme?!

(Sorry in advance if it’s not embedding)

Sick color scheme honestly. Big fan!

Also, fixed your embed @CoasterMac. For anyone who is having an issue getting Reddit posts to embed, the shortened URL Reddit gives you when you try to share a post doesn't work. If you open that shortened link in a browser and copy the full URL that Reddit redirects you to, that will embed properly. Hopefully this is fixed eventually, but that's the key for now.

Someone said this might end up being like YoY. Where one side will be a thrill coaster with inversions, while the other will be a more family focused layout
