With Halloween Haunt just around the corner, I was talking to a co-worker on Friday about it and he mentioned how he attended the first year of FearFest back in 2001. He said he still enjoys Haunt, but liked FearFest much better as there was much more effort in the houses, scare zones and overall decorations. I never got to experience FearFest and Halloween Haunt in 2010 was my first visit to KD's halloween event. What's funny as well is that while I never attended this event, I remember having a Kings Dominion FearFest pencil in elementary school. Where I got it, no idea. Possibly from a summer trip and they happened to be selling them early in one of the gift shops.
I did some research and found this article, as well as this post on the KD Golden Year's Facebook. One says it debuted with 3 mazes and he other says 5.
And while I haven't seen any video from Kings Dominion's event, I did find one from Kings Island's.

It looks like the only maze they shared was the Freezer, but everything else was different or slightly revamped. I gotta admit, Kings Island's Torture Tower looked really cool. A haunted maze at the top and the way they did the dark purple lighting with the strobe lights looks very menacing. However, I can imagine that was probably a horrible line when you consider the elevator.
I also didn't know the Blue Ridge Tollway was used as Haunt attraction back then either. One Haunt attraction I wish they would bring back. On another note, according to KDGY, the event didn't have a make up crew and the actors had to do their own with what they were given which I find very interesting.
Did anyone here get to experience FearFest? I would love to know what your thoughts and experiences were, and how it compares to Halloween Haunt.
