This is such a lovely surprise! Myrtle Beach has seen so much loss in the amusement industry, so it's great a shiny new Raptor will be towering over Ocean Blvd.

ACE did an interview with Dean Corl and mentioned that the Go Kart track and a "few others" have been torn out.

Looking at an 11 day video from Ocean Blvd, the only thing that's been removed right now is a ride op shack and the side bumpers/tires. Nothing changed for the bumper boats yet.

I was hoping that they would be able to start using the former "Splashes" water park site for this project, but good to see them improving the existing park further. There seems to be a desire to move Family Kingdom from a fair-style park and more towards an amusement park you actually want to spend time in.

If Hard Rock Park opened a few years before or after it did, it would probably still be around. Literally opened at the worst possible time. It was about a 15 minute drive from the beach but it was a nice park.

Looks like it’s a FedEx shipping center now.

Funny. I’m reading this as I’m wearing an authentic hard rock park hoodie I found for like 10 bucks on Depop. That park looked sooo fucking cool man. Still sad I’ll never get to visit it.

South Carolina absolutely needs whatever it can get in the amusement industry. We have 5 parks, 3 of them being FECs, and 3 of them (including one of the FECs) being in Myrtle Beach. We have 7 coasters, 5 of them being in Myrtle Beach and 4 of them being SBF Visa spinners.

I know this isn’t quite a great time to be opening a park in America, but it’s such a missed opportunity for there to not be one in the Charleston area given its rapid growth. The most we’ve ever had was the Folly Beach Pier and that burned down nearly 50 years ago.

There may not be a large, cheap plot of land around Charleston, BUT I have found one near Myrtle Beach:

They sold the land that Splashes stood on

Not sure where news of the sale is coming from. GIS for the county shows the property owner is still Family Kingdom. Could be outdated, though.

The park, including both Family Kingdom and Splashes as a whole was sold a few years ago to new owners. New owners then razed Splashes. Is that what you're recalling?

Tossing the opportunity to have oceanfront access and have a new, ground-up expansion would be a bummer. That being said, it would be completely unsurprising if they sold the property to have the necessary funds to improve the existing park (including this new Raptor).

Time will tell!

If they didn't sell it and want to expand, then they would have to worry about a road
