Endangered Rides

Which attractions do you think are endangered of being removed? Especially with how the current SF regime is so trigger happy in removing rides. This is my list of rides that I believe are at risk for removal in no pertectular order.

El Toro as its currently gives rough rides, been neglected by the previous regime, and has had recent incidents.

Houdini's Great Escape with being heavy but neglected theming that is showing its undue age.

Justice League due to its complexity and heavy theming. Possibly could just be rethemed similar to what happened several times to the dark ride at Knotts.

Congo Rapids as its a early and primitive rapids ride besides being the oldest operating version of that type of ride. Water rides seem to be on the decline in theme parks in general besides cannibalizing from HH.

Medusa due to isolated location at the far end of the park reducing guest traffic besides complexity and age.

The log flume as this type of ride is on the decline in the industry, age, and that recently refurbished older rides tend to be on a short leash. One more hiccup could place it for removal.

Dark Knight due to low popularity, neglected and aging theming, and poor condition of the building.

El Toro appears to be going through a retracking (and allegedly quite an extensive one), so I think it'll be okay for a bit. However, I do share some fear about Houdini.

The Congo/Roaring Rapids plot would take a lot to redo, but the corporate accountants looking over the balance sheets probably won't end up liking that ride very much.

Dark Knight has been completely neglected and could use some real TLC - we'll see if they're willing to provide that.

The ride I'm most worried about at the moment, as has been alluded to in another thread, is Superman. The thing is sitting in no man's land right now. I love that ride and think it's awesome that people can watch the (fairly unique/novel) train tilt from the parking area. But with it being there all on its own...

I have to say, I hadn’t considered that Superman could be at risk in this massacre, but even after giving it serious thought can’t see it leaving in the next few years. It’s made by a manufacturer old Cedar Fair loves, isn’t excessively old or expensive to maintain, and even accounting for its lower capacity is still one of the most popular attractions in the park. Given how much capacity their lineup is losing right now with few/no immediate replacements, I think it’s safe until at least 2027 or whenever the next coaster after Ka’s replacement comes along. Yeah, it’s kinda on an island at the moment but they’ve got tons of space to work around it, I think it’s too entrenched where it is to be removed. I just can’t see a reason other than paranoia where that makes any sense to argue for

Screamscape claims that the CF management implemented a program called Project Accelerate where every year they review older and higher maintenance rides for possible removal. This is an ongoing project so there could be another round of removals next year throughout the chain. Possibly they may intend to turn GAdv into MM east, all coasters and not much else? That way it could be differentiated from Dorney which would be kept with a more rounded ride assortment.

Regarding El Toro, if the rumor is true that Cedar Flags initially wanted to remove El Toro but Great Adventure management said absolutely not then I think it’s safe for now.

^ That ultimatum (as much as I still hate it) would at least make a little more sense in the context of a retrack - either large amounts of money are spent running Ka and El Toro is deemed too rough for continued operation, or those funds get allocated toward giving El Toro's rails a comprehensive refresh.

Classic asset stripping which often is not a good sign of a healthy company. It can sustain a ailing company for the short term but its clearly not sustainable or good for long term health. Wonder how their ROE would stand up to a Dupont analysis?

Agreed, it's definitely safe for a while. My biggest worry is that supposedly this retracking is a multi-year project (that'll let Phoenix reign number 1 no competition ^^ ). It'll be weird for a while, but I hope SFGA can bounce back even stronger.

We always talk about what rides will be removed, but at this point it might be simpler to talk about what rides stay. I think hundreds of rides worldwide are a hop, skip and an accident away from removal.

Sunk cost fallacy. The Sunk Cost Fallacy - The Decision Lab Well trained executives are supposed to disregard sunk costs in their decision making to avoid making this fallacy. The new management has clearly demonstrated that they consider nothing in their parks to be sacred enough to be safe from removal. It is a bitter pill to swallow.

Nothing like taking a fun, low stress hobby and over analyzing it to the point where you spend all your time on forums complaining about how everything sucks now

I don’t know how anyone can look at how quickly demolition progress is being made at Great Adventure and think they’re just throwing darts at a park map and removing whatever they hit. It’s not a coincidence that 6/8 removals are in the same area, with one of the other 2 being due to extenuating circumstances.
