In our recent Falcon's Fury Construction Update, I posted about the new walls and construction going on just across the path near Scorpion. As I assumed, it isn't directly related to Falcon's Fury, but it looks to be a new recharging station for personal electronics, like cell phones and tablets.

According to this tweet sent to us last night:

A little further digging online shows this photo from Behind the Thrills:

Based on the photo I took the other day of the top of the structure, it looks to be identical. No official word on when this will be open, but it should be relatively soon as it doesn't look like a huge project.

This is another thing that makes me jealous of you guys in Tampa. I Would not be opposed to BGW getting one of these, as I cannot tell you the number of times I have gotten into the park and found I had forgotten to charge my phone. Hate to ask but are they charging money for this? I will also love to see how well this works during the parks busy days (assuming they are anything like up here in VA).

SeaWorld Orlando got nearly an identical charging station earlier this year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it makes its way up to BGW as well.

There is no charge for it, and it's first come first serve. There are 16 USB ports and 8 electrical outlets, so while it's not infinite, it can serve a decent number of people at one time.

Does the park even sell USB cables? Usually when I go to Busch Gardens, bringing a USB cable is not one of the first things I think about.

If they do, I've never seen them. But knowing there is a recharging station in the park, I'll pack my USB cord in my bag on trips. It's with me in my car anyway. I also bring the cable and the electrical plug end with me when I'm at a Disney park since my phone can't seem to make it a full 12-14 hour park day of usage.

That's just me - I tend to go prepared. For those who know it's there (which is the goal of having a site like this), then it's an option. For those that don't - well they should have read BGTFans first!

Just saying but iPhone chargers are USB cords with a wall outlet, so if you are an iPhone user, you won't need the wall outlet, you would need just the cord, which is ideal for those who are traveling as many plug their USBs into car outlets or into car chargers, and so they just have the USB cord.

Of course that is just for iPhone users.

Yeah, and being an iPhone user, the USB cord was the first thing I thought of when I saw they had USB ports. I wasn't sure about Android since I don't have one, but I think that covers a large percent of the population, iPhone users and even if just some Android users.

This seems like a nice idea but I personally wouldn't want to sit here for hours while my phone recharges , usually when I go on Roller Coasters I don't take my phone with me for fear of it getting damaged or falling out in my pocket. I like to ride without having to worry about it.

I would find it handy on occasion, I go to my home park enough that I'm never rushed to get anything done, so I wouldn't mind stopping to charge my phone if it needed it.

I wonder what they are going to do about the Southwest advertising on it, since they are ending their partnership?

I think it is a great idea, especially now that my apps seem to drain my phone down to zero charge every day. I can generally use my cabana to recharge my phone at BGW, AI, and Aquatica, and we have found some available outlets at KD, but I have to carry a back-up charger in my ParkPurse for every other park I visit. Especially if you are with people who may want to skip some of the rides, there are always opportunities to sit and grab a drink or snack and add a little charge to your phone.

Since they've added the recharging station, they've also added one just inside Pantopia Grill where you can leave the phone in a small locker to charge for a few dollars.

The recharge spot isn't really meant to be sat at for hours to get a full charge, but more of a spot to wait for others who might be doing the coasters or Falcon's Fury nearby. I got a lot of use out of it over the last year while covering Falcon's Fury, but my visits to the park aren't the average type.

It's assumed that at some point the Southwest logos and what not will be removed; they'll probably wait until they have a new sponsor to pay for the change over.

BGW has those charging lockers. The one thing I really do not like about the lockers is once you open then locker the charging stops. You can never know if your phone is fully charged or not. I left mine in one for an hour and then some and it was just barely close to being fully charged.

What do BGT's charging lockers look like?
