The fights have hit the news.

Maybe we need a KD fight thread now to.
300 people needing to be removed should necessitate way stronger security precautions than just a chaperone policy. Serious bans need to be put in place and even consider coordination with BGW to ensure there aren't spillover incidents.

Legally if they knowingly violated the policy they could be cited for trespass perhaps the park should start doing that and try to make it well know as a deturant.

Awful look for KD. No other way to put it. Just acknowledge what happened and how you'll address it. When everyone sees through your BS, what's the point of spouting said BS? I guess they're counting on people just seeing their statement and not the news, but come on man.

This crap happens every single year now with Haunt, seemingly always on a Saturday. It's as predictable as the sun coming up. Seems like nothing they've done to address it has worked. Granted, people being jackasses is not the park's fault, that's on said jackasses and their parents. But it's crazy to me that they can't seem to find a way to prevent this stuff from happening after happening so much over the years during Haunt.

I don't know the right solution, btw. Not an easy problem to solve. But to come out here and say a "minor altercation" occurred when 300 freaking people were removed from the park is insulting to everybody's intelligence. The audacity is what annoys me the most, personally.

The "quickly hauled" part is also preposterous when you have the police out there saying it took TWO HOURS.

And I couldn't agree more. Downplaying an incident like this just betrays an arrogance that I think is a very, very poor look for the park.

Have seen parts of the issues and response I think it's more 50/50 with the park down playing and the media up playing. I don't think it was an actual 300 person braw but it was definitely sizeable. I think the 300 number has more to do with the number removed and that a decent amount of those were chaperon less youth that were possibly not linked to the fight. From what I could witness with my own eyes police and security were stopping anyone in the general area that was young looking and checking ID and asking for chaperon location. I would be shocked if there were not a decent number of otherwise innocent rules breakers that got caught up. I didn't stick around long after the incident so I won't speak to what the two hour time frame might have consisted of.

That in no way means I don't see it as a significant issue and event but felt some prospective was needed to be fair to the park.

Interesting that Hanover is saying "It was around 11 p.m. when deputies were able to entirely clear the park." implying that the park closed early when it definitely closed at the scheduled midnight.

From what I saw as I was entering the park (around the time when they were clearing out most the park, after the altercation), security guards were escorting large groups of teenagers, likely the ones violating the chaperone policy. It definitely was a case of security clearing out policy violating groups, namely the chaperone policy.

I also saw security escort some smaller groups with Hanover county sheriff deputies to backstage areas off I-street. The officer to guest ration was like 4 guards/officer to one guest. Some, but not all, were younger looking teenagers.

I don’t really think I know the cure all solution for KD security, but I think enforcing the chaperone policy for the entire day may be what could help them avoid the situation like on Saturday, at least the optic of 300+ guests ejected from the park.

Tonight and on Friday, I witnessed multiple security guards ask groups of teenagers to show ID and inform them of the chaperone policy, and refuse entry to the groups with younger teenager. They were even getting them help with guest services to fix any ticketing issues they faced due to denied entry at least on one occasion I’ve seen.

"secured, contained, and under control."

I don't think that is meant to be read that the park was emptied—just that they were dealing with this 300+ person horde of troublemakers for two hours and, by 11, things were finally stable again.

Could the people behind the BGW fights also be behind these? Is it a connected group?

Interesting about the people with masks, makes it sound like this was planned in advance.
Per a report on WRVA's morning news Hannover County Sheriff's office has issued a statement debunking social media reports of masked, people and weapons being involved. As of right now the best sourcing pluss my own sightings don't support many of the wilder stories circulating.

Makes sense, from what I've seen the weapon claim probably came from people trying to start a stir. I've known plenty of teens who would shout "HE'S GOT A GUN" as a bit. Add that to people already being somewhat on edge and I understand how people would've been pretty scared.

Given the demographic involved and the hour plus distance between the two I don't think that is likely. Big draws are just sadly becoming more of the social norm amongst youth T the moment.

Some of the claims and stories I have seen on social media are bluntly made up and with so much incorrect information about the park and layout that I question if the pie gave even been in the park. Example was one guy claiming that a clown shoved them inside the funnel cake shop to get away from a guy with a gun. Um where is there a funnel cake shop near Candy Apple Grove?

Not to say the guy is right because I doubt it, but there is a funnel cake shop in the middle of Candy Apple Grove. Apple Ida's Funnel Cake is right next to the drop tower. That is, when it is open....

I mean there's isn't any funnel cake shop with an indoors lol and your first instinct isn't gonna be to run around to the back of the store and I to the kitchen

Semi-related but slightly off topic. Not sure if or where the right place to mention this would be.

Back when I worked at Johnny’s Burgers (Candy Apple Grove,) one night there was a sudden crowd surge coming from the Congo area. Full stampede, people yelling and screaming in fear. One of the guests made it into the kitchen area before we could realize what was happening and they had a minor injury from the rush; we locked the doors and called (can’t remember if it was security or first aid we would have called) for first aid for the guest. The guest explained they heard someone yell they had a gun or heard gunfire, something to do with a gun, and everyone started running away. I don’t believe there ever was actually a gun but IDK. I remember when we called for help they said they were getting bombarded by calls and couldn’t give us a time when they could get there to help the guest.

This would have been probably sometime between 2002-2004. Can’t remember the exact time anymore.

Issue is this exact kind of scenario happened in Orlando/tampa. Orlando teenagers announced a takeover at funspot. Funspot announced chaperone policy to counteract. Event was moved to BGT. BGT had a huge parkwide fight. Same group that hit Aquatica, too.
