Hi, sorry to open a new thread if this is already existing somewhere else, but do ride operators get any say in what ride they work?
Are the ride choices usually slimmer during the middle of the season? (like May, June?). Also say if you applied in March for ride operator intending to start in May, would you get any choice?Yep, basically, all line positions are offered any one of the available spots if HR decides to hire them. In the beginning of the season, it's more like they ask where you want to go and they tell you if there is a spot. My first season, I asked for Griffon, but they were full up, so I asked what coasters were available and they said all of the others. Ended up going to Apollo. Had a great year. Can't believe that was over 12 years ago now... After that, line positions have pretty much open spots for re-hiring/next season. Now once you get into non-line positions (ie supervisors), you do not get a choice, with few exceptions. I say that because my second year as lead, the area (BUS at the time) supervisor liked me enough to let me choose the ride I wanted to supervise in her area. All other seasons as a supervisor, I was assigned locations and had 0 say.
All depends on when you interview. Usually they fill positions as they hire, not as they start. Also hard to say what it's like with the current hiring climate. Could be vastly different from when I worked at the park. Are the ride choices usually slimmer during the middle of the season? (like May, June?).
