While BGW is letting people in for free, Disneyland raised the price of their annual pass to over $1,000.

Disneyland has upped the price of its most expensive pass -- the one with no blackout dates -- to $1,049. That's up from $779 for what used to be the most expensive pass to the parks in Anaheim, California.

Across the country at Disney World, the most expensive pass with no blackout dates is $829 a year, up from $654 a year.

RE: Disneyland hikes price of theme park passes over $1,000

Here's another really interesting article on the change and the rational behind it written by Robert Niles of ThemeParkInsider: Link

It is actually a super interesting read for anyone who follows the industry. Highly recommend checking it out. More likely than not and for better or for worse, this is the direction I see most all the larger parks heading eventually.

RE: Disneyland hikes price of theme park passes over $1,000

I wrote an editorial about this yesterday and I ended off with this quote from Walt Disney. "Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.” I really hope Disney management doesn't forget this.

RE: Disneyland hikes price of theme park passes over $1,000

^As explained in the article, these passes are being raised to such prices for more reasons than just money. Crowd management plays a huge role in the guest experience.

I've seen people on online message boards complain about the crowds at Disney and plead Disney to do something about it. Then, to cut down on crowds, Disney raises prices and the same people complain after realizing they are the ones Disney has priced out of the park.

So if you're Disney, you have to decide whether you want a very crowded park or a very expensive park. Looks like they've made that decision.

RE: Disneyland hikes price of theme park passes over $1,000

Despite the what-seems-exhorbitant price increase, I don't see this deterring crowds one bit.

Disneyland suffers from (1) being the original Disney park and (2) The DLR having only two gates.

Los Angeles set a tourism record last year with almost 45 million visitors and many of those people have Disneyland on their bucket list. Tourism officials expect that figure to reach 50 million by 2020.  Add to that the massive local population (that is also increasing), Disney gate attendance won't hurt one bit from these price increases.

And honestly, I can see them jacking up the prices again before the Star Wars land opens.
