Disgusting restrooms in the park!

It’s ya boy Stoney back after another few years, and I’m coming to you live taking a dump in the Festhaus currently. The adderall, kratom and coffee I consumed on the way to the park really messed with my stomach, so I needed to find a restroom after my first ride.

Well, this is my first visit back to the park in quite a while and I’m blown away by how absolutely disgusting each bathroom I’ve stepped into has been. The first bathroom I stepped into was the one to the right of Tempesto… the first stall I peeked into had toilet paper seat covers piled on and what looked like a clogged toilet. The stall next to it had a stew of fresh diarrhea brewing in it, so I decided to try a different one.

Went to the one by the stage in Italy, same situation! I decided I’d have to try Festhaus since it’s the largest restroom, there had to be at least ONE clean stall. I kid you not I had to check 6 or 7 until I found one without a days worth of dried urine on the seat or clear doo doo stains all over the toilet.

The one I’m sitting on now still has some feces stains smeared on the stall wall, and two crusty toilet paper wads sitting on the dispenser… as if someone busted a nut while at the park! Idk if there’s genuinely a lack of custodial employees, low morale, or if I’m just used to being here on weekdays with less people to clean up after.

They are bad. Between the crappy food, and the bathrooms, the guest experience has gone down the crapper. I also commented about this on surveys in the past. Too much penny pinching going on to help shareholders.

Really random aside but I played Whistling Straights over the weekend, and I was chatting with the locker room attendant. He’s worked at Whistling since it opened but was at a very high end course before that.

Anyways. He was saying how in the last 10 or so years he’s seen a significant decline in guest behavior. Leaving all kinds of shit in the locker, paper towels in the sinks, wet towels causing showers to overflow.

This is not to absolve BGW of not cleaning the bathrooms or fixing the plumbing. But rather to point out even at a course with an $800 daily play fee guests are assholes and don’t care. I can’t imagine most guests care to say anything about clogging a toilet, throwing stuff on the ground, or the lack of flushing.

The bathrooms at the front of the park near the kiosks is falling apart. The soap dispenser was hanging off the wall and one of the two faucets in the whole bathroom didn't work at all. It looks awful. I definitely think it needs a refurbishment because the 3-4 stalls and 2 urinals cannot handle the traffic it gets.

The England bathrooms were really nasty last time I used them. Then again, that bathroom tends to be hit-miss.

Some of the bathrooms aren't terrible. I try to use the Festa/Italy bathrooms, the New France bathroom, the Rhinefeld bathroom, or the hidden bathroom in Ireland. Those tend to be better than the others in the park.

From someone who has cleaned a lot of those bathrooms you listed, England/entrance bathrooms are the worst. The main entrance bathroom gets so much foot traffic and everyone's shoes have so much dirt on them that as soon as you mop, it looks dirty again. Its literally non stop mopping. It doesnt help that (at least when I was there) the floors were white so every bit of dirt was visible. Some of the other bathrooms have darker floors which dont show footprints as well so it seems like they are cleaner. One of the things Ive vowed if I ever got an engineering position at a park (unlikely at this point as the ones posted would mean a huge pay cut from what I'm doing now), was to never put light colored flooring in bathrooms. There were always so many call outs for England AH, which was the whole reason I was there for one day since they didnt have any male AH team members so I had to sub in. As for the broken items, that's something maintenance needs to fix and should be nothing more than a request put in and fixed by the next day. More likely than not, no one has put in that request. Overall, the England bathrooms need expanded given that so many people use them. Like festhouse sized bathrooms are appropriate for the main entrance.

Yup, I always avoid the England bathrooms and try and tell me family to as well. I always rate the bathrooms as the most negative experience in the surveys too. Not to compare, but I'm always impressed how much cleaner the Kings Dominion's bathrooms are.

I know I'm a broken record on this but bathrooms will be a constant problem no matter who you are business wise because people are disrespectful and don't care anymore. In my time managing a business I needed to replace paper towel dispenser 6 times in 3 years, soap dispenser 8 times in 3 years, fix a clogged toilet (with things that shouldn't be flushed) at least 8 times a quarter, clean it almost hourly, and we were a fraction of a percent as busy as BGW.

BGW badly needs to renovate every bathroom on property. And the issue with year round operations it's impossible to do this work without some temporary solution that might be seen as 'worse' by guests like bathroom trailers or portajohns.

But they need to get in there and do more than the occasional repairs and cleaning because clearly there's issues with the bathrooms that need addressed. And what sucks for BGW is it's impossible to do anything about the "bad actors" who intentionally damage bathrooms. They could try to opt for hiring people to staff every bathroom at all times to continually clean or staff the cleaning crew to a higher degree.

Some of this sounds like the Verbolten budget argument though. If it is a ticket that needs to be submitted, there's a chance it could be getting submitted but there's an argument of who's budget it should come out of. I've been in those during a meeting and those arguments are intense. I really wish they would do what we did at the stadium I worked at and we created "slush funds" for things like that bathroom where something like repairing broken soap dispensers come out of and no individual department needs to take the hit.

Arguments like that shouldn't be happening and they need to solve this because it seems to be a common occurrence. But it also feels like if that's still going on, the budgets are set by corporate offices and just hand down to the local offices what it is and they can't touch anything. Which is really really stupid IMO. If should be that BGW gets an overall budget, they develop it locally, send it back for approval, then they get to move forward.

I think the loss of paper towels has added to the mess on the floors. There seems to be significantly more water on the floors. Upgrading the ventilation systems would be a huge improvement to air quality and to remove the stench.

Dedicated bathroom attendants would also help. Not necessarily an individual watching, but someone who's sole job is to check and clean only bathrooms. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know staffing and wages are an issue, but they weren't a problem pre-covid. We all know the bathrooms are only going to get worse with Howl-o-scream coming. That crowd is destructive.

I’m not giving a free pass, hence why I said the things I did about them needing to do to improve the bathrooms. I’m saying that doing that stuff won’t magically solve all the issues because there will still be ‘bad actors’ who will do what they want regardless.
