I would love for Kings Dominion to create a highly themed flume ride more along the lines, and using elements of both the former water rides: The Haunted River and Diamond Falls.
Here's how I would create it: There is a mountain structure that can be differently themed than Volcano and you start on the ride by traveling in a straight line up the first small hill, then the ride turns to the right and goes up a lift hill inside the mountain structure, then it's a four minute journey of strange animatronic creatures, a creepy headless head appearing (via projections) warning you about "The King of Monsters" and to "Beware the river and it's falls". When you go up a smaller hill (the last one), the "King" reveals himself (the dragon creature from the original Diamond Falls, with a revised design) and telling you to "leave his treasure alone" and breathes a small amount of fire (which makes the ceiling burst into flames ala Escape from Pompeii) and you descend the hill and a large splashdown awaits. Then once you make a small journey straight and turn to the left to the station, the ride ends.
