Yesterday, there was an incident in a parking lot outside a Merchants Square business. The Williamsburg police believe a small explosive device was detonated. Fortunately, no one was injured and there was no significant property damage.
Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident and we are assisting the agencies involved any way we can. Law enforcement officials say the scene is secure and there is no indication at this time that there is any additional threat to the public. Parking lots adjacent to the site will remain closed all day.
CW Public Safety will have walking and mobile patrols in the area. We have also asked the Williamsburg Police Department to increase patrols around CW this weekend and to remain in regular contact with the public safety department.
The safety of our employees, guests, and surrounding community remains our top concern. We ask, as always, that you remain vigilant and if you “see something, say something.”
Suspicious activity of any kind should be reported to the Williamsburg Police Department at (757) 220-2333. For emergencies, please call 911. Alternatively, please call Colonial Williamsburg Public Safety at 3-911 or 757-220-7511 from your cell phone.
