This looks like a lot of fun; even for fast walkers. The cost looks like it is definitely offset by the value of what you get for your registration fee.

Is anyone else on these forums planning on taking part in this? Why or why not? Please comment & discuss.

My daughter and I will definitely do the Fun Run, and I am considering fast-walking the 8K.

I did the 8k Run in its inaugural year. It snowed that morning so it made it very interesting. The park is ironically kind of eerie in the morning. No lights were on but they were playing the music. The Marine Corps Sponsorship/Marines scattered throughout the race course really adds to the event. I would most definitely recommend to anyone. Heck even if you're walking its a great time. There were plenty of mothers with strollers (I slowed down for a breather and one of them passed me - talk about a self esteem killer).

Enjoy it and enjoy the medal. Seriously they are amazing looking. Great quality and the lanyard holding the medal actually is thick and durable. Closest some of us will get to a mock Olympic Style medal.

By the way I said neither not because I don't like the event, but that I'll still be up in the mountains at school during it.

I have done this since it began, and I must say it's a lot of fun. Instead of water, you get hot chocolate (Lots and lots of it, too!). The run itself is pretty cool. It's a rare opportunity to peruse the park with no one in it. It's creepy, but really cool at the same time. The biggest thing I don't like is that most of the race is in the parking lot (Which can become boring).

If you do do the race, I recommend getting there pretty early. Everyone is admitted through the employee gate, so parking takes forever and there tends to be a pretty long line (last year they had to start the race late because the line was so long and people were getting there really late).

The perks are definitely worth the price in itself. Unlike the Chick-Fil-A 5k in May, this race is held on a Sunday, so there are no free sandwiches at the finish line (but you receive A LOT of free sandwich coupons).

All in all, I enjoy this race and plan on doing it again this year :)

Any pics of these medals?

Does that mean you are in the England parking lot?
And do you have to walk to the start line (regular park gate I think) or are there trams shuttling you?

To be totally honest, I don't actually remember where we parked. You enter the park through the same gate where the 13 line is (in Ireland) and progress through the park by going through the Wild Reserve. You don't park in England, I know that for sure. If memory serves me well, I believe we park in the Italy parking lot and you have to walk to the start line.

I'm sorry I don't remember...I honestly don't know why I don't know :(

CORRECTION:

Yes, parking is in Italy and you walk across the bridge down to the starting line. Epiphany!!!!

I do hope it's the same quality though. Completely agree with Skyrider, fantastic medals.
I wonder what the medal from the first race was like?

Just found this in another thread:

Between the two designs, I hope this year's medals look more like the 2010 version. Much better I think.
