A mother, father and child were injured, with the mother in critical condition after a log ride malfunctioned at an amusement park in Riverside on Saturday, authorities said.

The failure of a pump that normally provides an ample flow of water to slow the ride as it descends down a slope caused the car the family was in to gain too much speed and hit the bottom unusually hard, throwing the three out of the car, Guzzetta said.

Castle Park log ride in Riverside injures 2 adults, 1 child

The incident was reported about 4 p.m. at Castle Park, 3500 Polk St., Riverside Fire Department Capt. Brian Guzzetta said.

It looks like due to the low water level, it came down the straight too fast and ejected as it hit the hairpin way faster than designed.
