Looks like I will be diverting my vacation to this park if top thrill 2 isn’t opened back up this year.

Do you guys have any specific recommendations or pointers for this park? What is the time the ride waits are lowest? Is Gwazi reliable? How many days at this park should be enough? Where would you guys recommend staying in terms of Hotel? Looks like Busch gardens has their own hotel near by.

This park seems to have a really solid lineup of coasters on paper. I’m also considering Kings Island. Any opinions are welcome. I think I may come in August or September. Assuming the TT2 debacle is not fixed.

Trying to avoid long lines

Gwazi is reliable but has extremely slow operations. Despite this , the ride is very intense and not very repeatable for most people, so wait times are normally around 30-45 minutes even on fairly busy days. Busch Gardens doesn't have a hotel, but they partner with some of the hotels in the area. If you want to stay for more than 1 night, I strongly recommend getting a hotel away from BGT as the area consists of one of Tampa Bay's most dilapidated areas, and USF's campus. YBor city area is nice if the downtown scene is your thing. If you don't mind an extra 20-30 mins drive there are tons of nice places to stay in Pinellas County on the Gulf, such as Clearwater, St Pete, Treasure Island. They're all slightly different flavors of beach town. North of clearwater there's Dunedin which mostly has boutique hotels, but has a great downtown area and is similar to Williamsburg in scale if you don't wanna stay in an urban area. If you happen to fly in to Orlando (BGT is less than 2 hours from MCO, traffic permitting) Lakeland has plenty of options and will be about the half way point. Be sure to Check flights to SFB and PIE airports as well if you don't mind flying with Allegiant, just don't forget to account for bags.

As for the Park, There are only a few rides that hold long lines. Cheetah Hunt will always be at least 45min, normally 90mins from 11am onwards. Cobras Curse can sometimes hold a line. The line for Scorpion moves very slow but isn't terrible most days. Generally speaking, just start with Cheetah Hunt , then CC, and probably knock out montu while you're there, and then move on towards pantopia and do a lap of the park. You could also either start with Gwazi then do Cheetah Hunt, or go to Gwazi after you get through the Egypt coasters and loop the park that way. Either way, you should be able to finish all the coasters in a couple to a few hours. The Flume will frequently get insane lines and doesn't even come close to getting you wet, skip it unless it's a very short wait. The rapids ride is quite short as far as they go and the majority of water comes from a single feature that may or may not hit all guests. It can be fun but unsurprisingly, often commands a long wait.

Other Parks wise, some of my favorite parks in no particular order include Hershey, Knoebels, Silver Dollar City, Knotts Berry Farm, Carowinds, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Universal Orlando. I guess I'd also throw the Disneyland CA parks in there too but I get the feeling you weren't looking to spend 200+/day for what is definitely a less coaster centric experience.

If you're trying to avoid long lines, I'd advise going on a weekday while kids are in school and the park closes early. You'll basically have the place to yourself and free reign of every ride in the park. Stay away from weeks where the Orlando parks are crowded (that basically includes most school holidays).

If you go on a slow enough day, you'll be able to clear all the coasters and walk through most of the animal exhibits in about half a day, although if its your first time I'd look into doing a full day first.

Weekdays will be best, but if weekends are your only option, rope drop is the way to go to ensure you get everything in. My strategy for weekends is to arrive at parking ticket booths between 9 and 9:10 am, which usually puts me up front. (NOTE: BGT usually uses all parking lanes.) Parking typically opens at 9:30, and with Preferred parking it is a very short walk to the gate, which will put you towards the front of the line, usually behind some folks that got dropped off.

Cheetah has been running one station more often than not, so probably best to start there if you haven't ridden it, as one station ops on a train that holds 16 guests will quickly result in long waits! Besides, if you head to Cheetah, that allows me to get a few more rides in on Gwazi before the lines start getting l;onger! :)

As for hotels, definitely stay further away from the park. Ybor City is a good bet based on properties that are available and price points. It is relatively close to the park, but also close to nightlife in Tampa.

One other thing: If you are coming down from Orlando, traffic in the morning on weekends is pretty good, and it will take just over an hour from hotels in the SWO area. But the drive back can be nightmarish. Prep for at least 90 minutes, and anything under 2 hours should be considered a "success".

Hope this helps.

Hey guys. Some time has passed on this and things still aren’t looking wonderful for TT2….. what is y’all’s take on August and September crowds at this park? Someone told me Sept is a slow month for BGT. I was wondering if a weekend in September or late August is Doable. Without unbearable crowds

What do you mean by full day? A day where hours are longer?Sry just wanted to clarify

If you arrive at the parking lot by 9:30, most weekend days are fine. Just do Cheetah, Cobra's, Montu(never goes over an hour); then procede around the park. Falcon's Fury will most likely be closed and as I said before, don't wait for the log flume.

Edit: if you do this you will have ridden every coaster before 2pm. You can then use the rest of the day for re-rides, to get anything that had downtime, or to just go through the animal exhibits or flats. It's not a terribly difficult park to do in 1 day.

A weekday in September is a perfect time to visit. Most kids are in school around that time so you'll have the whole place to yourself. I would come in at park open and stay till park close (basically a full day).

Weekends might be a little more crowded but should be manageable. Still come in at park open and stay till close. If you're doing Howl O Scream, the park closes at 6 and reopens at 7. You'll need to buy a separate ticket in order to attend the event.

What about weekends in the end of August. What do you think that’s like.

Also do you have any experience with the water park?

If you are traveling alone, I would not recommend the water park, as there are a large number of no single rider attractions. Can't comment on the crowd level, other than to say that weekends in a waterpark in Florida in Augest is sounds like a bad idea.

The park closes at 8 on weekends in late August so the park probably won't be too crowded. You should be fine getting one ride on all the majors and a quick stroll through the safari (best way to see it is from the train). Fridays and Sundays will be easier than Saturdays for sure. The older rides (Kumba, Scorpion, Montu) will fill up later and clear out earlier than the newer, more popular rides so take advantage of that. Gwazi's line tends to die down toward the middle of the day while Cheetah and Cobra will stay busy all day if it is remotely crowded.

I've never been to Adventure Island so I can't really give you advice there.
