I understand how you think how the hamlets have been changed, but does changing their names really detract from the experience? Are the ride more fun in Aquitine than in France? Is there anything really wrong with making the hamlets more accessable to the GP?

While I understand why you were putting a lot of focus into the shows, and I'm not trying to discount their importance at the park, they're only one part of the whole picture. Rides are still themed to their areas (obviously there are people who disagree) and Verbolten will certainly be well themed. As for food... I spent more on food at the park last season than I've ever had before.

Individually, my concerns are (for the most part) minor. Cumulatively, in my eyes, it seems the park is trying so hard to be "everything to everybody," that they're losing their identity. This, too, shall pass.

I think you and I actually see eye-to-eye on more than one would suspect at first glance. But this, as I expected going in, would not be one of them.

And that's okay.

:)

Let's put it this way, I don't disagree with you that there are changes, I just think it's impact on the park is minimal when it comes to going and having a fun time.

...for you.

As someone who is (for the most part) a nonrider, I can say the impact is different for me.

Good stuff, can't say I agree with everything, but from your perspective, I can understand where you're underwhelmed. I also wish there were better shows. I used to be a nonrider until about 2005-2006, so I feel less impacted by the reduction in shows. I did enjoy the addition of illuminights as well. I just wish the shows were longer or had more substance. the one in Da Vinci's garden is my favorite.

Just wanted to leave my few comments here.

I think your article was very well written. It does make you think of things a little differently. Personally though, I must disagree for a few reasons. I would love to see the park go back to using hamlet names instead of generic country names. It is a little detail that, while I am fine without it, it is really nice.

I must point out that just because the park simplifies hamlet names does not mean they are 'pandering to the lowest common denominator'. In fact, I find that phrase to be quite insulting to just about anyone who isn't a theme park fan.

Other than that, I think it is a very good article and I love the before and after pictures of the hamlet names. It really goes to show the minor changes that are being taken. Honestly, I don't understand why the park would waste so much money on changing such small things. For example, the Aquitaine Clock signage. It already says Aquitaine, why spend the money for another custom sign to replace it just to say France? It just seems like a waste to change some of the custom theming.
