Looks like the park didn't have permission to use some music they've used. I'm guessing it was something by Vangelis.

This suit was filed at the end of September, if there were no changes last weekend there's no reason to expect changes now. The park will likely settle any claims out of court.

I often wonder how they get away with using some of the music they do...like, did they really pay to use the Sleepy Hollow music in Harvest Hollow?

I think the main reason they get away with playing whatever music they do is because they don't advertise, sell, or name any of the songs they use. I mean how many people sit there and pay attention to every song played in the park (excluding the members on this forum)?

Well, when I studied radio broadcasting, I learned under a guy who's job it was to go out to places like car dealerships and restaurants and listen for them to be playing unauthorized music (did you know, btw, that it's unlawful to play the radio in a place of business without the station's consent? It's equivalent to showing NFL games without the proper permission...it constitutes a public broadcast, which is prohibited.)

There are people who go out looking for this kind of stuff...and with the thousands who spend time at BG in Sept/Oct, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

EDIT:

I guess it could be that, PzP. Maybe.

I apologize for being so blunt, but upsetting a bunch of internet nerds is hardly a screwup.

Sure, this could be a black mark on his record. At the same time though, that song is such a classic that I can't really blame them for not knowing it's copyrighted. The best thing I can compare it to is if The Chicken Dance had a copyright. I guess it all comes down to how much it costs them, but the fact that it's still the same doesn't make me thing it's that major.

Why apologize for your M.O.?

Look, I said "Could be..." It could also be nothing. Just sayin' that SWP&E Corporate has been more than a little concerned with the state of things at BGW, specifically in Entertainment - I can't imagine this suit is a reason to celebrate... But hey, what do I know? I'm just a nerd on the internet.

;)

While ya'll are focusing on how BGW didn't get permission, I'm laughing at the idea that someone as big as Vangelis gives a damn that some theme park used their incredibly common song that I hear just about everywhere.

When you don't have any talent anymore, you make money milking the good stuff dry.

I am fairly new to these forums and looking at some of the larger issues of the park. Are you saying that there really is some murmuring going on about ole' VP of entertainment here at that level? Just curious where and/or how y'all come across this information.
Also just a nerd on the Internets.

Back during Illuminights, I posted a thread (deemed unnotable :dodgy:) about Jim Attchinson visiting the park. If you aren't sure, Jim is the CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, the big boss so to speak.

When I announced that, after people felt it was nothing to talk about, I believe one of the mods said that the state of entertainment at the park is known throughout the industry, or at least the company and executives have been visiting the park checking in on the entertainment from time to time. They have been evaluating the entertainment and more or less evaluating Scott. Park entertainment has hit a time where things are not so good. Some shows are huge hits, others are large flops. Its just that there have been too many large flops from Scott to go unnoticed.

I am assuming this information was originally leaked out through inside sources, but of course a lot of this is probably rumor and speculation as well.

Post proof or retract. I DEMAND TO SEE THE EVIDENCE.
