I can't say I'm a fan of people staring down at their phones even more than they already do but this looks neat. I played PokemonGo for literally about a minute because it wasn't my thing. But I can get behind teamwork and pretend rivalries. If Busch did something like this I don't think I could choose one country over another though (assuming they went with that instead of rides for teams).

But what if there were a dance fight?

I try to limit the time I spend on my phone at the parks, but since I'm in the minority as technology comes to dominate more and more of our lives, I'm glad to see KD embracing this change and using it to their advantage.

Plus, since the entire game is Kings Dominion-themed and much of it requires interaction with physical sets, I don't think it will take guests "out of the experience" like other apps. In fact, it might even make the park experience more "immersive."

We tried the app out on Saturday, when we were there for Taste of Virginia. It was fairly entertaining, although we have the annual Fast Lane passes, so we were not able to play any of the AR games.

We were "sorted" (for lack of a better word) into our teams, based on a personality quiz. I did discover the next day, however, that you can choose a team, when you click on the Battle section. I'm not sure, if that is true from the beginning? Regardless, apparently, you have to pick a team every time you go to the park. You can unlock team pins, by earning enough points as a member of that team. Do can also unlock a daily winner pin.

We were able to play the trivia games, log our rides for points, and meet the daily challenges. We also tried the video next to the Eiffel Tower, but it didn't seem to do much.

It seems like a clever idea to me, and certainly could keep people entertained, while waiting in line for attractions.

Yep, I bypassed the personality quiz completely and just selected my preferred clan (Flight of Fear!) when I first started.

I actually thought the AR queue games were the best feature of the app. I only tried the ones at Dominator and Volcano, but they were surprisingly high-quality and fun. Both of them were sort of "shooting gallery"-type games, with creatures related to the ride's theme "eating" away at the giant billboards set up for the game. You would then orient your phone to fire various projectiles at the creatures, while avoiding attacks from the creatures that damage your "health."

The games were easy to figure out but were challenging enough as the levels progressed, and they were definitely entertaining. I hope more people find out about the game, because it really has great potential to create a sort of interactive queue element that the public would adore.

I wonder if Battle for Kings Dominion is coming back for 2018? The game was fun when the app actually worked, but it was glitchy and didn't strike me as particularly successful.

If this game is still around in 2019, RIP all the Battle for Kings Dominion signage throughout the park that heavily featured the Volcano character.
