Animal World was actually a petting zoo behind the Three Musketeers Theatre (Royale Palais). Nowadays we call that railroad infield the bullpen.
Great to know! I had no clue this area ever existed. I have some photos of Royal preserve, but that is pretty well documented.

The Royal Preserve Petting Zoo was around a lot longer than the Aquitaine zoo. I never knew the name of it until those pictures were shared. Thanks @CoastersRUS for all the awesome nostalgia!

This map shows the petting zoo behind the Royale Palais which, seems to be Animal World. If I had to guess based on old park maps, I believe that zoo only existed in the mid-80's. Before it was a petting zoo, it was a bison or bull pen full of large animals for viewing from the railroad. The railroad was full of so many roaming animals especially on the Tweedside-Caribou leg of the route. This area was really the only spot to view animals on the in-park Caribou-Tweedside leg.

From what I can gather, most of these pictures I’m posting are from about 1981, so the dates line up. I grew up in a different part of the country so I never visited BG until I was an adult. I’ve only ever heard about the animal area over in that general vicinity but I thought it was in NF so it’s neat to know where that actually was.
