It is once again time to elect new Advisory Panel members. Please note that there have been some changes, since the last time. As in the past we will use a two-step process:
  1. Forum Members will nominate candidates; and
  2. Once that list is compiled, we will hold a vote.
For the first time, however, the nomination process cannot be anonymous. Because of a decision by the current panel:
  1. We will require that every candidate receive at least two nominations to be included on the ballot; and
  2. We will require that all nominees formally accept their inclusion on the slate.
The other existing rules still apply:
  1. You may not nominate yourself, and
  2. Anyone caught campaigning for either a nomination or a vote will be disqualified.
The Admins have unanimously agreed to waive term limits.

Please send (PM) all nominations to @AdvisoryPanelAdmin, and feel free to nominate as many people as you feel appropriate. Be sure to use the person’s username, not real name.

We will update this post daily with the names of those who have received at least two nominations. Please post any questions about the process below, as well. Do not nominate or support any specific candidates here, however.

If you have been nominated and wish to decline, please PM one of the Admins.

We plan to close this thread at 8pm on Friday (26 March), and start the voting process the following Tuesday (30 March).

When nominating people, please keep in mind the purpose of the election and the Panel, itself. The Advisory Panel serves a critical role in setting Forum policy and in censuring and banning members. It is intended to assist the Admins in running and governing the Forum. Panel members can be called upon at any time to make recommendations on Forum issues, some of which can be time sensitive. The Panel is intended to represent the Forum membership and advise the Admins, based on their experiences and requests/thoughts they receive from other users.

For these reasons, this is not a popularity contest. People who take good photos or know a lot about manufacturers may or may not be best qualified to represent Forum members or make reasonable recommendations. Think about whose views about the Forum align best with yours, who you most trust to vote on policies, and who can be thoughtful and objective in considering the implications of policy and banning decisions; not who has the most clever posts.

*******

The following members have been nominated by at least two people. I have not included those who cannot serve on the Panel. If you do not see someone whom you believe would be a good Panel member, please PM @AdvisoryPanelAdmin by 8pm on Friday. I will continue to update this list daily.

Second dumb question, are all current panel members up for reelection or only a few? Sorry if this is spelled out somewhere, I didn't happen to see it if it was.

All current panel members are eligible for nomination/reelection. If you like the work they’ve been doing, nominate them again!

My campaign runs on the promise that there will be an elaborate heist set up to seize the DK ride op shirt from @Thomas

Acknowledging that was a joke, humor is realistically a good way to get yourself nominated. Let’s please refrain.

I'm fine with being disqualified, it was worth it. The heist is more satisfying when you tell your target it is happening.

Just to remind everyone...

Anyone caught campaigning for either a nomination or a vote will be disqualified.

The best policy is probably just to not talk about yourself in relation to the election. We really feel like we need to be strict about this because as soon as one person does something that could look like encouraging a nomination or vote for themselves, it can quickly snowball into everyone feeling like they should say something about themselves in a similar way to level the playing field—it just becomes an arms race that doesn't benefit the process or outcomes at all.

The absolute best way to get nominated is just to go out and post on the forum about things you care about. If you are kind and reasonable—especially in your disagreements—people will notice.
