Kings Dominion has updated their special events for 2016 on their web site. This goes from the Season Pass Holders Special Preview Day through Oktoberfest weekend in late September. No Haunt info yet; I think they don't release the general information on that until late July.

I know we have a special events section; but, I don't have the time to start a new thread for each event (date/time/specifics).

Just a few highlights:

  • Spring Bloom is back. It looks like the start date has shifted a week later in April. The park did extend the event by a week last year. It could happen again for 2016.
  • Military Days during Memorial Day weekend and July 4th Holiday.
  • Special days for Autism and Deafness.
  • Kids Fest for two weekends in mid-July.
  • BBQ & Brew event is back for 3 weekends in August.
  • Oktoberfest for one weekend in September.

Let's see if Oktoberfest gets cancelled again, like it was in 2015.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Oktoberfest in September ey.....Hmmmmm.

Believe it or not, Oktoberfest traditionally takes place starting in mid-late September and ends only a couple days into October(first Sunday of October, typically). It's more of a celebration of the month to come rather than celebrating in the actual month.

That is what time they started. Most employees didn't even know what time it started. The announcements also kept starting up and cutting off after "Ladies and gentlemen..." I think this is a great rehearsal for bigger events though.

KD is closed this time of year for 'private events'.... Anyone know what these are, who they are for, and what operates during them (are all coasters open)???

Northrop Grummand apparently does every year. I think they were last weekend. Not sure of others. Sounded like a few coasters were down last week due to staffing. Can't confirm that though, but I would imagine everything should be open if they pay to rent out the park.

I can confirm that on September 10th (Northrop Grummand Day) this year, quite a few rides were closed including Hurler (obviously), Windseeker (at night), one side of Rebel Yell, bumper cars (obviously), Avalanche, Volcano, and the backlot stunt coaster. It was the worst Northrop Grummand day I've ever been to and I've been going that day for years.

Just curious, but how do you get to go on these days? Do you know people that work there? Or is there a way to get tickets without knowing someone? I saw that other people posted they went that day as well but did not work there.

Booz Allen Hamilton also had a day this past weekend of closed days as I know someone that went.

Well I am an assistant Den Leader of a Cub Scout Pack that goes that day every year. The Cub Master of the pack works for the Norfolk Shipyard and from what I understand, it is through his job. I don't know of any way of getting tickets without knowing someone.

Something funny to me: Even though it was a private event and you needed a special ticket to go in, they still honored my gold pass for my 10 percent discounts that day.
