Nice write-up of the first Kings Dominion Halloween Haunt VIP meal this past Saturday from the CP Food Blog site. Includes a few pictures of the decorations, table settings, servers, and most importantly, the food.

The article includes this coming Saturday's menu (Oct 4th). I thought some of you were planning to attend the Haunt VIP meal this Saturday, so I assume you knew already what the menu would be. (Did the Park contact you yet for food allergies or for vegetarian menu?)

Thanks for the write-up, Nic. I've been itching to read a review of this dinner. I agree that the fare seems more "accessible", but there still seem to be nice little touches of creativity all over the menu. I think the salad looks especially nice.

My one complaint is the presence of "truffle" oil, which I cannot bear. I've never had fresh white truffles, which are extremely expensive, but I love black truffles, having had some incredible bits of truffle in France and occasionally cooking with them when Dean & Deluca had fresh ones, and I had the money to waste. But "truffle" oil actually contains no truffle at all, nor does it taste like truffles. It's a combination of olive oil and a thiol-ether chemical called 2,4 dithiapentane. All up-and-coming chefs should just say NO to it.

Yeah. Where can I score some 2,4 Dithiapentane? I was at a Phish cover band show in 2012 the last time I two-foured it. Believe the hype, people. This shit is legit.

I guess you'll need to sweet talk the Chef up at KD :)
 
Now look at what I've started.

You do not want 2,4 Dithiapentane in concentration. Since it's a thiol (a molecule with a sulfhydryl group), it smells horribly of old garlic.
