slightly off topic...but I liked how the second acceleration run actually shot you up and out the top of the mountain.

Volcano doesn't technically do that as the launch fins are practically parallel to the ground. There are none on the vertical ascent to the top of the mountain.

I think he's saying that the initial launch blasted you around the corner and the second launch run gave you the extra speed to actually get over the top.

I'm not the biggest fan of this ride as I think it never lived up to its potential; I'm one who would say that it is too short and you come dropping back into the station with a good amount of speed. The ride also has terrible capacity problems. However, KD does not have many quality roller coasters compared to the quantity they have, and V:TBC was at least an interesting ride and a showcase of more coherent theming than you're likely to find in the rest of the park. I:305 and TT have certainly become the banner rides for the park, but after those and Dominator, I feel like Volcano is their next best coaster offering. If CF has to pour a lot of money into this ride to fix it, I'd like to see them invigorate it and maybe bring it to the potential it has always had.

Personally, I think they should add something new in that area and move on from volcano. Safari Village as a whole needs a facelift, and adding a new coaster where Volcano once was would be a great chance to give the whole area some TLC. Plus, Volcano just isn't that good imo, and they could add a much better, reliable coaster there.

Just my two cents ?‍♂️

Replacing Volcano with something better would be a huge cost. I think the parks are starting to see that larger renovations e.g. $1M-4M can be considered closer to maintenance than a new ride if a ride has been popular over a long time. It depends on the actual numbers, but it's not the only coaster showing its age they have to plan for.

Way I see it, it is a very weird ride but that does make it unique. Short but intense and different enough to follow up any other ride in the park. I really like the big first turn, thinking about that maybe extending the ride after the drop with some forceful turns actually wouldn't be anticlimactic or seem like just making it longer at all, it would balance it. Less weird though.

Does anyone have any insider news regarding the status of Volcano?
I emailed guest services two weeks ago and did not get a reply yet.
Would like to know if it could be reopening until the start of the season?

This is definitely a big surprise. Many guests will disagree with the parks decision. Yea, it may be a reliability issue, but why not just pay the luxury tax to fix it? Fans would be happier in the long run to see their favorite ride still in operation. So many parks have made the mistake of getting rid of something good and it's replacement just can't live up to the hype of the classic attraction that was once there. If Volcano were closed this coming season for maintenance, I'm almost positive it would re-open with no issues in 2020.

Thoughts?

This is obviously more than just a “maintenance” issue. Something is terribly wrong with the ride as a whole for them to be getting rid of it.

I will miss Volcano, and if the mountain is removed it really will leave a hole in that part of the park. I remember riding the train when it was the Land of the Dunes, then Smurf Mountain amd was there opening day for Volcano. I remember waiting a little over three hours that day, I had arrived fairly early in the morning, got in line and then it opened by the best of my memory sometime early afternoon. What ever replaces it will probably never match the uniqueness of Volcano, a rollercoaster that was both inside and outside of a themed ride structure.

I did not love or hate the ride. It was exciting the first time I rode it, but I had only ever been on one other Liner Magnetic type launch. After the first time it really lost its luster. Further exasperating the issue, I just am not a invert guy. Sure I rode it as long as I fit but I never left an emotional connection with me. Frankly for a pure aesthetics POV I always thought it did visually scale with the mountain. To me, the mountain always felt about 1/4 if not more as big as it needed to be. But that is just a personal thing.

Personally I would love to see a return to some dark rides akin to what was there before. I know that is 180 degrees out of phase with what it likely, but it is what I would prefer. If the park desires another coaster, and I am certain they do, they should consider the vast land that they have not used, over by Old VA for example and the the mountain to a different fate.

Just food for thought, wasn't CF staring to add a moving Dark Ride to all their parks? Could the mountain be a good location for that kind of thing?

Well said. Feel the very same. The first time I rode it the launch and first inversion were great. After that they lost their pizzaz to me.

I kinda do hope between this and Crypt having problems CF looks to change up the area, and not use it to expand planet snoopy.

Here is another thought that has scared me. If Cedar Fair has been removing rides that are maintenance costly and no longer popular, do you think it's possible that this could be Flight of Fear's last season? If so, it would devastate me because it's the reason I continue to visit KD. Or is removing two rides, a little too risky for the company to do? If FOF was removed, they would have a big spot to fill. Or would you consider FOF a ride that guests still like?

Thoughts?

I don't think FoF is in danger. It's still reliable. VBC had some deep seeded issues.
