I love the ride on Volcano but....really? This is where my big disappointment with Cedar Fair is. Almost every park has that 1 ride that's down a majority of the year (or so it feels).

The problem isn’t cedar fair, it’s the manufacturer... intamin

Not disagreeing as it's usually the Intamin at the CF park I go to that's down, but they seem to have bigger problems with their Intamin's than other parks that have them and I've gone to frequently.

Cedar Fair also has some of Intamin's more experimental creations. Volcano, Dragster, and Xcelerator come to mind as coasters that were first-of-its-kind, and as a result are likely more temperamental when it comes to maintenance.

To be fair though, I've been to other places where the Intamin ride is experimental and don't have nearly as many issues.

It's also more to do that other parks have mostly gotten rid of their problem rides. Volcano, TTD, Xcelerator, and the ilk are popular enough to warrant keeping them around due to their draw with Fast Lane Plus sales.

Magic Mountain's Green Lantern (The Intamin Zac Spin) has been down for at least 3 months now with no signs or indications of anything with regards to reopening. They've also been running 1 train on Full Throttle for a while and no one knows why. Hell Kennywood's Sky Rocket is going to be down for a while thanks to the electrical fire in its computer shed this weekend.

Full Throttle and Skyrocket aren’t Intamin.

On the flip Hershey’s Intamin trio had restraint issues but are never down long. And F97 has the only vertical lift that’s double chain, SR has a unique launch, and Skyrush has the wing, steep climb and cable lift.

FWIW not absolving Intamin of making issue laden rides, but rather the duration, the frequency, and the typical issue (what’s causing the shutdown) is mostly a reflection on the park or ownership change IMO.

You can point to the fact that those three are unique, but by now the launch system ok KK, TTD, and Xcel are the same as SR and a few others, and SR and KK don’t see the same amoumt of downtime as the CR counterparts. Same thing for the launch system on Volcano (inverted is unique but they even have a few non full loop versions), it’s not unique so it can be fixed quickly.

So at some point it is just CF and speed. Makes me wonder if the fixes that need to happen are something that they send CF engineers to work on rather than the individual park maintenance.

I can't confirm this but my understanding from what I have heard is that Volcano is in a similar situation as to what Intimidator was in a few years ago. IE its has a broken part that is hard to get and shipped from overseas and is down till they get it. Again I can't confirm that but that is the rumor that I have heard a number of times.

The park's website now says "Volcano: The Blast Coaster is temporarily closed. We apologize for the inconvenience." This, coupled with previous reports in this thread, seems to suggest the ride won't be open for a while. :-/

For what it is worth, we heard that Volcano's crew has been broken up. I'm not sure if there is any timeline in place, or if the park is still figuring things out.

Additionally, Volcano does not appear on anywhere on Coaster Con 41's final schedule.

This is, unfortunately, in line with what we have been told by people familiar with the matter inside the park. This sounds like a really bad one, folks.

Yeeeesh. That's not good. I hope it's something they can salvage and get it going again.
