I've seen a lot of negative reviews and lack of excitement for this ride on these boards, particularly as to the ride being slow, but I got a chance to ride this on Friday night, and I have to say, I enjoyed it far more than I expected. I've been on a couple of other RMCs: Iron Rattler at SFFT and New Texas Giant at SFOT. After all the rave reviews of NTG, I was a bit disappointed by the ride when I finally got to it last year. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun, but I think being the first RMC gave it such a good reputation and gave me higher hopes. I was far more taken with Iron Rattler, which is just a stellar ride. I didn't have super high expectations for Twisted Timbers given that it was a makeover of Hurler, a much smaller and less classic ride than the other two makeovers I had ridden, and my experience wasn't off to a great start. The ride was down the overwhelming majority of the day, and when it finally returned to operation that night, the line grew weary. Even though the queue was far from filled, the operation of only one train and the use of a sorter in the station (which I absolutely loathe as some of you may know) caused the wait to ultimately swell over 90 minutes. By the time I finally boarded, I was pretty tired and I remarked to my friend that the ride had better be worth it. It was. This ride is more Iron Rattler than New Texas Giant for me. Sure, it doesn't have the tall or steep drop that either offers, but I enjoyed the barrel roll drop quite a bit. I will say that King's Dominion really exaggerates the marketed "20 hills" or "20 airtime moments" by including several small dips that comprise other larger hills that I wouldn't count. However, this ride has lots of airtime, and not just that, it has lots of good airtime, which is an important distinction for me. There was a good bit of ejector air that I really enjoyed and I thought the ride did a great job of replicating the feel of a wooden coaster without being rough in the slightest. The ride lasted a decent time, especially considering the relatively small 109 ft drop, and the overall experience really blew me away. This ride packs a punch that similar larger rides don't, and I appreciate it. I also always appreciate a ride that's willing to take you upside down and only give you a lap bar. The restraints are comfortable and allow for free range of movement for the upper half of the body, which I love. All ages can enjoy this one, and I think there's a lot to offer for enthusiasts. The biggest con here is the theming, which is a usual strike for KD. There's obviously something to do with strange goings-on at an apple orchard, but then there seems to maybe be something with aliens? I couldn't tell. Despite this, they've done a great job turning an old mediocre woodie into a great ride for everyone. Well done, KD.
