As we all know the Crypt has a lot of down time, and the effects do not always work either. At ACE's Fall Thrillfest yesterday, Gary Chadwick was asked which ride is the most expensive to operate. He responded that in terms of return on investment, the Crypt costs the most resources. In fact, he seemed fairly negative about the ride in general.

His comments, paired with rumors we have heard from within the park, lead us to believe that Crypt's days could be numbered.

I would be kind of bummed if the Crypt was removed I think it's a really cool ride. Perhaps they may consider removing the fire effects as I'm sure those are really expensive to maintain. If it does go I hope we got some large flats because I really like parks with several large flats.

Crypt's main problem, as seems true for many Huss rides, is the ride system itself. The cost of parts and maintenance combined with its horrendous reliability record makes for a very unappealing ride to keep running.

As a huge fan of flat rides, I hate it just as much as anyone else. That said, business is business and I think a lot of the GP wouldn't know the difference if it vanished over an off-season. :(

It's sister ride at King's Island has already been closed. I don't know if it is SBNO or if has been totally removed. That one was totally indoors, so they could get away with leaving it SBNO unlike KD's outdoor "budget version."

The only true shame I would see in The Crypt's removal would be the loss of its relatively elaborate theming. Even without the fire, the waterfalls and fountains, statues, stone architecture, and thunderous music have really come to define that area of the park. I wonder if there would be a way to preserve the lagoon and surrounding theming, even if the ride itself were removed.

As far as replacements, Cedar Fair seems to be in love with Mondial flat rides like Knott's Sol Spin and Canada's Wonderland's Soaring Timbers, both of which would fit nicely in Crypt's spot and could utilize the existing theming. I got to try Sol Spin over the summer and thought it was a unique, thrilling experience and infinitely more comfortable than The Crypt. It would be a worthy replacement.

Add Riptide at KBF to the removal list. The park got rid of it last year.

My understanding is that many men find the seats very uncomfortable.

Every time I ride The Crypt, I have to think about how I am going to sit. Still, I get scared every time I come back down. It's not really my favorite kind of thrill. I do, however, love the part where it flips you relentlessly about six times. That part doesn't give me enough time to fall forward in my seat towards the potentially lethal belt buckle area.

It's a really fun ride, but I don't like thinking to myself before a ride "Is this going to be worth any potential injury?"

I personally really enjoy the Top Spin concept, I just think it needs some design work. The ride format gives a really fun and unique thrill, it would be interesting to see if another company could make a better version of it.

Hopefully it just to protect it from the weather but Cript's ride vehicle is tarpped over at the moment.

The Good: Fire, water, and music were all working this past Saturday. Every few cycles fire was shooting from the fire torches, something I hadn't seen in very long time. A slight bit of fog seemed to be misting out for the first time in a very long time as well. Ride cycle seemed quite viscous as opposed to what I remember.

The Bad: God damn this theming gets visually worse each and every year. Holes of some sort in almost every theming element of the ride. I could care less about this stuff as long as the fire keeps blazing though!

Did anybody ride Backlot this weekend? Seems like Boo Blasters and Crypt got some love. Did Backlot? Please post in this thread. Thanks in advance.

When I rode the crypt it looked like the top of the temple structure was practically rotting. The water effect wasn't working for me the multiple times that I rode it either. Its one of my favorite flat rides but it feels like as if something is always wrong with it.

Backlot was closed when I was there so I can't really comment on how it looks. (but I know it wasn't closed for any refurbishment that day)

Who honestly thought Volcano would come down BEFORE The Crypt? I do hope KD sticks out for a while with it as these Top Spins are becoming increasingly rare and they're really fun rides.

It could be worded that way, yes. I was told simply that it was too reliable for Cedar Fair to approve at the time.

I guess the best way to say what I was told was 3 fold: reliable enough, Volcano being down, and lack of replacement.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Volcano’s death has given Crypt a few extra years. Surely the park doesn’t want to remove another ride from that corner of the park right now.
