Here you can talk about the infamous Singing Mushrooms that will be located across from the Dodgems entrance. You can talk about your memories of them from back in the day or you can share your thoughts on their current, refurbished presence.

P.S. If anyone thinks this belongs in a different section, please PM me. After a little thought between a few people, it was decided that this best fit under the "entertainment" category. Let me know privately if you think otherwise, thanks!

You made the right choice. Looks like Kings Dominion is indeed classifying the Singing Mushrooms as entertainment, as seen here.

I heard a rumor that one really hot day in the old station for Land of Dooz the mushrooms grew up from the ground and could sing. The Dippin dots guy told me it had to be true.

It looks like the pink mushrooms are fading very fast :(. The sun points directly at them, so I'm sure that it the biggest factor.

RE: Singing Mushrooms (1975- ???) (2014- Current)

The sun can easily make colors look duller than they are, that doesn't necessarily mean they are fading. Truthfully, almost nothing can fade that fast, or else all the Florida parks would have blank signs within days of putting them out. Just my thoughts.

Does anyone know, if they used a protective coating? At Legoland one of the Master Builders told us they put a coating on all of their Lego sculptures to prevent fading, and they have to reapply it periodically.

Don't know, but I'll be at the park tomorrow to see it in person. I saw two photos of them from today, and the pink ones look faded from both angles that the photo was taken.

I was at the park today and stopped to peek at these. I didn't see any fading/discoloring on any of the shrooms.

Yeah, I was just going crazy, they're actually painted that color.. oops.

The big pink one just has a fade to it in the front. I never realized it, my first time seeing them was in the rain so they had a "glow" (better way of saying it) to them.

New Singing Mushrooms:

Old Singing Mushrooms:

It's the same set as the "Golden Years", but the arrangement is very different when you compare the two; very interesting I would say.

Does anyone remember the original lyrics to the "Hanna-Barbera" version of the song that the Musrooms sung originally?

I (sort of) do!

The song I assume you are referring to was featured in the 1977 movie Rollercoaster and was originally a parody of the ragtime song "Hallo! Ma Baby" from the late 1800's. Its chorus (what the mushrooms sing) was popularized by the Warner Bros. cartoon One Froggy Evening in 1955, which you can see below:

The lyrics to that were:
Hello! ma baby
Hello! ma honey
Hello! ma ragtime gal
Send me a kiss by wire
Baby, ma heart's on fire!
If you refuse me
Honey, you'll lose me
Then you'll be left alone
Oh, baby, telephone
And tell me I'm your own!

The song gets cut off by George Segal's dialogue in the movie, but here is what I found that they sang:
"Hello to Yogi,
Hello to Boo-Boo,
Hello to Scooby-Doo!
Barney and Fred say hi..."

There is a barely audible line that sounds like "...and good times are on the rise..." although I am not entirely sure about this. Check below to listen to them sing the song, at 1:02:21:

Now, the mushrooms sing the Peanuts version of the song:
"Hello to Charlie,
Hello to Lucy
Hello to Snoopy too!
Linus and Lucy say hi,
And Woodstock is flying high..."

Hope this helps!

Ahh, 'tis good to be back. :)

Singing Mushrooms

Where are the original Singing Mushrooms? If KD had them wouldn't they have brought them out for the 40th instead of making new ones?

I'm pretty sure the old ones were damaged over the years. They weren't preserved in anyway, so they copied the molds that they did have to create the new ones. Also the mushrooms have more movements, so the insides needed to be reconfigured as well I'm sure.

Yeah I gottcha. Sorry I didnt see the original thread for these guys

If I recall correctly, the mushrooms were either sold or trashed. I remember hearing somewhere that a woman in Henrico owns the original frog (lucky lady if you asked me :p). Even if the park did still have them in storage, the technology that worked them back then was far more rudimentary than it is now, and those mushrooms probably would have been mocked more than anything.

Point is, the original mushrooms (if they're even still around) at this point are forty years old themselves and the mechanics were probably far beyond repair. Also, in my opinion, the new mushrooms are much happier-looking and while their song lyrics are more or less the same, the music is cheerier. Seems to fit the park as it is today well in my opinion.

EDIT: Didn't see the other replies already made to your question, Glaze. :p

RE: Singing Mushrooms (1975- ???) (2014- Current)

The only reason why I asked, is because I FOUND THEM.

So as a senior, we get to paint murals in the hallway if we take an art class. I incidentally did the Singing Mushrooms in honor of KD40 and because of my love for them. A girl in my class comes up to me and asks me if I knew where they were today. I told her I have no idea, but I'm dying to know. She tells me her grandpa happens to own two of them and the frog piano from when his father worked at the park. Check these guys out!!! These are the now the only pictures of the original mushrooms not installed in the park.
