I think that foot print is certainly out and back, but too small for a hyper. They have plenty of wooden coasters, so I don't think it's that. Also, that turn is very small. Could be room for an Inversion, or just a high and tight turn? thoughts?

The scale here is a bit hard to discern, but if those are parking spots it looks very small.

It’s about 4000 feet based on reports.

The possibilities of what could be added over the next decade or two is staggering. I love that they were able utilize that old golf course area. Though, with all that new land, I wonder if they would want to relocate the various officer/employee areas over there. That would open up a massive area next to Fahrenheit and Wildcat and would let the Midway America area "breathe". It used to be much bigger but most of Midway America was taken for the water park areas. Is the stadium considered historic for the park like the old arena? If not, I wonder if they would ever consider building a replacement over by the newer arena. That would also open up a whole bunch of space and allow for a more modern stadium. However, that probably would not be worth the cost.

Unlikely. Hersheypark boxed themselves in on that north-western edge of the park, and unless they do away with catering area between Fahrenheit and Wildcat, along with moving the arcade, they would have massive bottlenecks getting back to that area. It would also mean moving park offices and employee parking from centrally located locations for quick access and ease of entry.

In the last 6 years they've replaced the turf, updated facilities, and put in a new stage for summer concerts. Plus the PIAA uses the stadium for football, soccer, lacrosse, fieldhockey, etc. They would struggle to replace the stadium and still have the old one up, along with enough parking for everyone. That's why the golf course was vital.

A lot of people are speculating that the coaster could be a B&M hyper coaster. I'm wondering if it's a B&M wing coaster. Personally, I'd prefer the latter.

^I agree.
I just don't see the need for a Hyper with Skyrush in the park... but I will admit a traditional B&M Hyper offers a drastically different ride experience.

So I've been putting a bunch of thought into this:
~I don't think they'll do another Hyper without a distinctly different ride experience.
~I doubt they would do a wing coaster with Skyrush already out there.
~Hersheypark is also a park that doesn't tend to "repeat" rides to "makeup" for a "mistake".

So I'm going to throw this one out there:
Hersheypark doesn't have a true modern out and back woodie. The only other one of those that they have is Comet. Racer and Cat are both twister GCI layouts. So what if they went hyper....but it was a woodie at the same time. Hershey likes going for records and one offs. This could definitely be the type of thing that's one off, unique, and doesn't clash with anything they already have.

For reference Mako is 4700 and thats a fairly low and fast hyper. Also skyrush is 3600 feet as an extreme. I dont see this as a BM hyper, if a hyper at all.

Edit: looked up all B&M "hypers" and 400 ft gives enough for about a 170ft coaster of that type.

I was looking at old aerial photos of Hersheypark (at historicaerials.com) and remembered that the park used to have a rapids ride called Canyon River Rapids. With the new area available to the park, would you like to see a return of a rapids ride? Almost every major theme park has one. Maybe its time for HP to have one again.

I doubt they will add one again. With the Boardwalk in place they have little need for a rapids ride. It's a high cost ride to operate, a high space ride too.

All the waivers are basically the township giving Hersheypark the autonomy to operate on their own when it comes to managing the land and taking care of the storm waters themselves.

@d.mac I got to apologize, I missed the footers in there.

Here's the layover of a google map, the wide view, and the potential coaster layout:

Yeah, I figured them having a water park might negate the need for one, but then I realized that many major parks have a water park and still have a separate rapids ride. So, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary if HP decided they wanted one again. The question would be would it be worth it.

I don't think it would be worth it. How many parks that have a water park and a separate rapids have the park and water park in one gate? For HP there might be move value in doing something like moving one of the rights in the back, expand the Boardwalk into that space. Not that I think that would ever happen.

In all reality, they don't need one with how big the Boardwalk is, and having Coal Cracker they are still set with a non-soaking water ride.

If they expand the Boardwalk again, most likely you would see Tidal Force come out, some of the buildings north of it taken out. After that would most likely be Wild Mouse Moving.

I would really love to see them re-invest in the Midway, put a bunch of games back there, and retheme the area to a turn of the century pier park. Paint Wildcat white, take out the overflow switchbacks (haven't been used in a while) and put in some games there.

Heck on that line of thinking, I wouldn't mind seeing Wildcat shut down for an entire year to get repainted, let GCI retrack the entire ride at one time. Leave Laff Track as is, leave racer as is, with maybe a new lighting package.

I know of two at least. Six Flags America and Kings Dominion.

I could see Wild Mouse and the Ferris Wheel being relocated (maybe to the new areas). And like you said, I wonder how much longer Tidal Force has.

Okay boys and girls, time for "Fun with Maps!"

So with this news that they are filing for a 220 foot height waiver, we know the coordinates are 40* 17' 06.67" N; 76* 39' 44.94" W. Which in this image puts it right where the cross circle is:
2018-08-21.png

We also now know that the site elevation is 356 feet, Structure height is 220 feet, total height is 576 (above sea level). The creek down there is at an elevation of 340 feet, so if this coaster were to dive all the way down there that would mean another 16 feet of maximum drop height, for a total drop of 236 feet. Now it would be interesting if they do this as Kennywood just took back the record of tallest and longest drop in Pennsylvania from Hershypark, it wouldn't exactly shock me if Hersheypark did this to jump back in front.

If it isn’t “first” or “-est” it doesn’t draw. Interesting that it goes all the way back beyond/over CW entrance. But also that the coordinates put the peak at the far reach of the layout - max climb to an immediate death spiral before looping back around?

It wouldn't be the first that could do something like that. Intimidator @ Carowinds goes into an overbanked right turn after the first drop while Nitro does it to the left.

The scale is a little wonky but I believe there will be some sort of air time hill between the first drop and the hammerhead/turnaround/whatever-it-may-be.

Just because these are the coordinates given doesn't mean that's where the tallest point would be; there's a certain amount of distance that it can move from that point. The same thing was done with Skyrush. They put that point as right in the heart of The Hallow; an the high point ended up about 125 feet away from the point.

Sorry for the double post but:

Where the overlays of the site plans overlay, the coordinates place this right where the turn around is at. The 'peak' of the lift hill is 780 feet away. At the point that the elevation is 422, a full 75 feet higher than where they are placing this at. The creek elevation is 335 feet. They could be pushing a giga without going up a full 300 feet in the air. They could be looking at pulling what Kennywood did with Phantom and what BGW did with Apollo; a lift height shorter than the drop, so they can reach that drop without a huge lift. I bring this up because a 220 lift, topping out at a place where ground level is another 87 lower means they would easily hit giga territory, and without a tunnel to drop into you would hit 307 feet.
