I came across this teaser on a Cedar Fair fan page from earlier today and I’m not sure what to make of it. On the teaser, one of the envelopes is clearly addressed to a “Rebecca Hanover” at the park. If you look closely, there is a tornado stamp at the top right corner. I also looked up the coordinates on the envelope and Google Maps pinpointed it to the entrance area of Planet Snoopy. Not sure if the area is significant or not. The other coordinates go to California’s Great America.

My mind goes to four things:
1) Could something be replacing Tornado?
2) Could something be coming to Planet Snoopy? I sure hope not because we just got an expansion in 2017.
3) Even though nothing in this teaser addresses it, because of the Dinosaurs Alive removal rumored for the end of the season, could we be getting something new in that area?
4) Does Cedar Fair plan to add a chain ride to the park with a mining theme? (kind of like Windseeker is at a good chuck on Cedar Fair parks)?

Its very possible that this has nothing to do with Kings Dominion at all and it could have to do more with whatever Cedar Point is getting versus what we would be getting for 2019. Because this season has been so big for the park with Twisted Timbers and WinterFest, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got something small next season.

I would count this more as the general chain wide teasers for their yearly announcement cycle. Cedar Fair is addressing themeing and also referencing all the "sister" parks with names and themeing elements from those parks. They're really trying to make their own "amusement universe" in that sense.

Not much has cropped up in the way of rumors for KD for next year, even though there's a few spots to develop. So I do not sincerely believe Kings Dominion is in for anything major next year. At most, a flat and replacement for Tornado, or maybe a family-oriented coaster (though KD is chock full of them).

I’d be shocked if we got anything major. Honestly, today is the first time this season that I’m even thinking about what Kings Dominion could possibly get in 2019. I’d be okay with a flat ride. I would like to see a chain-wide flat ride, actually. It’s been a while since we’ve seen something like that other than in Planet Snoopy.

For a possible announcement date: probably mid-August? I thought last year’s idea to announce the new attractions on National Roller Coaster Day was a welcome surprise and I would love to see something like that happen again.

EDIT: Does anybody know of any Cedar Fair announcement dates as of yet?

The park has confirmed that the dinosaurs are gone next year. How ever I think that anything going in there is probably 2020 are the earliest. I just find it hard to see the removal, planning and clearing of the site. And construction done in time for s 2019 opening.

This should come as a complete surprise to nobody, but I just wanted to report that in the Cedar Fair Q2 conference call today, they said that they will be announcing the new attractions for all the Cedar Fair parks "over the next month". I anticipate another mid-August announcement like the past two years if we're getting anything substantial. So far the only Cedar Fair announcement I've seen is Canada's Wonderland's announcement on 8/15/2018. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the other Cedar Fair parks follow this, including Kings Dominion.

Carowinds is slated for August 30th.

I do not imagine KD getting anything major, but I also do not expect them to remove anything after this year other than Dino's Alive.

I logged back in just to share the Carowinds teaser with the announcement date! While you beat me to it, here’s the tweet for anyone else wondering. They’ve got a really good marketing team down there for sure.

EDIT: Forgot to add that now this might mean a KD announcement will come later.

I did some digging and the coordinates posted in that teaser, which pinpoint to Planet Snoopy, seem to be simply the coordinates used for Kings Dominion. If you google the park's coordinates or check its Wikipedia page, you get the same coordinates as the ones on the teaser. So the coordinates most likely merely mean Kings Dominion, not Planet Snoopy specifically.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing an expansion to Soak City, though I would rather see more attractions on the South Side of the waterpark behind Racer 75 rather than replace Tornado's spot specifically; I like the new open skyline. That said, I wouldn't expect anything much for next year after such a big 2018 season.

Is it the MCU of the theme park industry?

I’m really hoping that Kings Dominion whips out a new slide addition as with the removal of Tornado I’ve found many slides to have increased wait times. With the two other slide attractions North of Rebel Yell operating hourly on lower attendance days I’ll find slides that were once walk-on on weekdays now boasting a 5-10 minutes wait. Nothing crazy, but I have noticed a minimal increase in lines across all of Soak City. The addition of a new large capacity slide tower or family raft ride would do wonders. Personally, I could see a small mat racer slide with an enclosed section leading into a drop similar to Riptide Racer at Cedar Point Shores. Also, I imagine I’m not the only one thinking this, but a smaller Harmony Hall to the right of Delirium would be phenomenal. Either way any new addition in 2019 would be welcomed.

I’d rather see something in the regular park (I don’t visit Soak City all that often), but I’d be okay with something replacing Tornado and wouldn’t be surprised at all if that’s what we get. I would also like a flat ride next to Delirium, but I had heard years back that they were supposed to build a Haunt building next to it to permanently house a maze, but I think those plans were scrapped pretty soon after Delirium opened.

As a side note, this hourly operation is temporary and is happening because of pump issues, which I understand are in the process of being fixed. Unfortunately, this has happened on busy days too.

I still completely agree that Soak City could use another big draw; lines have been crazy long this year. If the water park had just a few more slides, it would have a lineup to compete with WCUSA (in quantity, at least), and I agree with Connor in that a big mat racer would be my first choice.

I wonder how much the strange summer we are having is playing into SC issues. High humidity and heat, lots of rain....limited days to be at the park.

In terms of attendance it's hard to make heads or tails of whether or not attendance is up or down. Majority of the crowds spend their time in Soak City in the summer lately, rides have been dead even with Volcano down. There have also been days where Soak City didn't even open to the public due to the weather being so bad.
