RE: 2018 Ride - Virtual Reality

Damn, I was JUST going to post this too! Beat me to it! But oommggg it looks sooooo exxxcciitttiinngggg!!!! Thank GOD they've come to their senses and converted that ride! I'll miss Questor but anything's better than Europe in the Crapper.

RE: 2018 Ride - Virtual Reality

This is the kind of VR conversion I can get behind. Far more appropriate than a coaster IMO. Especially when you already have the ride system in place. Glad that Europe in the Air is gone for good as well.

Link is currently showing an error -- here's the link while that gets sorted out.

I'm looking forward to this, and I don't even know what it actually is beyond a motion-base-and-goggles ride.

Those motion platforms at BGW really are pretty sweet pieces of equipment, and it's a nice touch to put Larry Giles in the video to geek out a bit on the hardware.

(Also a smart move to leave King Arthur's Challenge out of his list of past rides using the platform.)

Any chance that the Questor elf is our tour guide through the Otherworld?

RE: 2018 Ride - Virtual Reality

Hope I'll be able to ride this without getting motion sickness. I think that it will be easier for me with the VR mask than with the large screen - Corkscrew Hill was tolerable but Europe in the Air was just miserable for me.

Thanks, I modified my post but I was using the You Tube option, not sure why it wasn't working right.

I was at the Globe theatre for the announcement today. I can't help but think about the hygiene side of things. I'm thinking of a hot July day with some sweaty person ahead of me putting on the googles. I know it's early to be complaining but hopefully there will be an explanation over the next 12 months.

On another note, they tried a card thing like they do for football games where the crowd makes a flag or something by holding up a colored card....Apparently it didn't work out as they flashed up the announcement the way it is posted above.

I imagine like other VR rides or 3D rides that you won't be getting the unit right off someone else. They'll have enough to cycle those units through a cleaning process with UV cleaning and hot washes.

RE: Europe In The Air

Hmmmmm.....

Look at the styling of the words "other world" in the video. Not only is it in a more pronounced and intricately designed font, but it also looks like the space between the two words has been purposely omitted. Could the new attractions name be the one-word "Otherworld"?

Since the video says the ride's theme will be based on a mythical Irish world beyond the human realm, "Otherworld" would make sense as a name... and it's quite catchy.

RE: 2018 Ride - Virtual Reality

I guess they have plenty of time to work out the details! They said it was first of it's kind. I've never seen an attraction like this.

At Six Flags, they clean each headset with alcohol wipes after each use.

RE: Project 2018: Virtual Reality Europe in the Air Replacement

I am not overwhelmed with excitement. The ride system breaks down all the time.

I am not gonna lie, this doesn't excite me in the least. I really really really can't stand this simulator. Something different, using the same platform, just doesn't raise my interest whatsoever.

RE: Project 2018: Virtual Reality Europe in the Air Replacement

I feel like if Busch Gardens has to jump on the VR band wagon that this is the way to do it. It doesn't ruin a roller coaster like so many other parks are doing and might be one of the better ways to implement this kind of technology in a theme park setting. I always thought the headsets were more conducive to a motion base than a physical ride anyway.

Additionally it's a minimal investment so if it's a failure it's not really that big of a deal. We're just in the same situation that we've been in all along.
