Another set of good episodic serialized shows: Psych and Chuck.

Especially Chuck. You can drop in on any episode and have fun, but watching it in order really ups the anti on what you are watching. Psych does the same thing. What they are great about is the ‘A’ story is very self contained, the ‘B’ story is self contained but often crosses over, and the ‘C’ story is the serialized part that weaves in and out of the A and B story.

The combination of serialized and episodic shows was one of the reasons I really liked Stargate SG-1. There was the overarching storyline behind the whole thing and most of the episodes tied together but there were also a bunch of episodic ones thrown in that changed and livened things up but still had the basic connection there.

Ice729, your comment about not having a conclusion to a serialized show is what ticked me off the most about the SyFy channel for a number of years. They had some great shows (Farscape, Eureka, Sanctuary) that they cancelled out of the blue or left you with a cliffhanger that made you think it was going to continue but didn't. At least they did the Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars to tie it up.

I’ve got to say 4 of my favorite shows are on the constant threat (or were) of cancellation. They always did a great job of cleaning up serialized elements of the show in the season finalie just in case, but left a slight open endedness to the season so if they came back they had a jumping off point. White Collar, Chuck, Agents of SHIELD, and Psych were great with that.

It’s always great to have that sense of closure, and I got to say as I get older; it’s fun to rewatch and look for what part of the story they could expand upon to short change the new serialized element so you weren’t left on a cliff hanger.

Of course the two worst cliff hanger endings to me are Pushing Dasies and Gilmore Girls A Year in the Life.

I've got to find and pick back up watching Chuck as I watched it for the first three seasons at least but then after a mid-season break I didn't go back to it. That's why I've started watching Haven from a little before where I left off with it so I can finish it off to see how things end.

Me and the wife loved the Gilmore Girls. But you could see the end of A Year in the Life coming. Regardless we still enjoyed it. We'd watch it if they brought it back.

Thanks for letting me know that as I don't usually check AP for anything video related as it seems like every time I do the show or movie I want to watch is one they want me to pay a rental charge to watch it. That pisses me off as why am I paying them for Prime! That's why I'm usually on Netflix.

I've always liked how USA ends their series (White Collar, Psych, Monk, etc.). Even during a series finale, USA manages to continue developing its characters through life changes such as marriages, promotions and moves to other cities. This not only provides the audience with satisfying closure, but also leaves room for future reboots or reunion movies. I know other networks do this too, but I've always thought USA was particularly good at it.

That said, I thought the Psych movie was...just okay. It was fun to watch, but I almost felt they should have left well enough alone.

Hey sorry if this isn't the best place to post this, but I've been working on this painting for the past three weeks or so for a class. I'm actually really proud of it ngl!! Also now that it's finished it means I can have enough free time to work on some of the concepts for rides I've been meaning to finish.
