RE: 2017 Show Rumors

Castle O'Sullivan posted his pictures of Opening Day and one of them was more of the set for "OktoberZest" which more dimension/details has been added. It looks freaking fantastic! It's just as good as the set for "All For One". :D

Here's the pic in question:

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

It seems from this picture, that there are real gears on the doors that open from the inside instead of outside. I hope they turn to the music/choreography, that'll be really cool.

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

OktoberZest.. (Trying not to cry. Pretending it's an illusion.)

Why are they playing "Take Me Home, Country Roads"? That belong back in The Canadian Palladium in the 70's (Ok, I like the song, but that's not the point.)

They did have the Holzhackerbuam, as I expected. Overall, the set and theme seems more like an excuse to be cheap with the costumes, and slow down the choreography since they could never get German dancing done at regular speed (9 times out of 10).

I just edited my last post to clarify my point more. That's still not all though. The finale used Russian dancing more than German. Although I have to admit that some of the moves were pulled off amazingly.

So let me get this straight. This show contains AMERICAN COUNTRY songs, a Russian dance finale, AND the show seems to be a ginormous mess??

Okay, NOW I want to see this hot garbage! XP

EDIT: Someone on Instagram posted the first photo of the show and I can say that the costumes aren't that bad (I would rather see that over the awful costumes of "Roll Out The Barrel", "Entwined" and "Wunderbarn") but they aren't as good/beautiful as the "All For One" costumes.

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

A lot of the choreography is done in a style that is commonly referred to as "stop motion choreography". I suppose this is the best solution if they have given up on real German dancing. My grandmother always used to tell me "Busch Gardens will only have "real" German dancing every once in a blue moon." At the time I thought that she was just being a bit of a pessimist. However, over the past few years I have seen that to be the sad reality of these shows.

The good news is that they have another beautiful set with so much potential.

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

A friend of mine saw the show a few hours ago and had this bit to say about "OktoberZest" to me.

"Out of the three new shows that took over the Festhaus since This is Oktoberfest left in 2011, OktoberZest is the least bad and the one that has the most good things going for it. The biggest problems I have with it is that the tone is all over the place, and the flow is very off with some songs being out of place and bizarre, with Country Roads being the one I found the most confusing. But with that said if you are curious about this show then go ahead and see it, you will be entertained regardless. The set and costumes are very good and the performers are excellent, with a special nod to the two musicians in the show. I would rather watch OktoberZest than both Entwined and Roll Out The Barrel in case your wondering how I feel about those two god-awful wastes of money".

Really now? That is interesting.

Welcome to the forums Jayne. :D

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

I like the beginning and end of the show sadly the audience proticipation in the middle is just horrible.

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

Skip to 7:49 for the first footage of "OktoberZest". Well, it's interesting to say the least; I guess Zachary wasn't kidding when he said that "this show is not your mother's Oktoberfest". :p

Yes, welcome Jayne!

True. However, just because Germans often use this song, currently, doesn't mean BGW should also use it. Octoberzest is a show in America and Americans will only see "Take Me Home, Country Roads" as what it is...a modern country song about West Virginia. The general public will only be confused on why an American country song is in a German show.

Not only is it NOT German, nor have anything to do with Germany, it isn't necessarily about WV either. More luck of the draw that Maryland didn't fit the lyrics.

Wikipedia - Take Me Home, Country Roads

Simply a poor song choice. Period. Especially with so many authentic German songs available.

BTW, this is aimed at BGW, not you Jayne. :)

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

I actually plan to write more of my thoughts about OktoberZest, but in the meantime I wanted to address the inclusion of "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

I am not a fan of anything in the new show, least of all country music.  That said, I wanted to give the park credit for explaining why John Denver's song about West Virginia is included.

One of the performers introduced the piece with some background.  Apparently, it very popular at Oktoberfest in Munich.

I am not attempting to take a stand on whether or not it should be part of the show.  I am only pointing out that the park explained its inclusion, so it made some sense in context. It was not a random country song, seemingly coming out of nowhere.

RE: 2017 Show Rumors

I can't wait to hear what you have to say about the new show Nicole. :)
