I'm guessing those are the swans a-swimming for the train during Christmas Town.

Edit: Now that I think of it, those could be Swarovski crystals. My Oma used to buy those almost every Christmas. Swans are their signature.

That looks to match the location that i spotted what appeared to be trapped up decorations setup along the train tracks. It would be neat if they are doing some sort of theming of the train to the 12 days of Christmas.

Has anyone noticed that the soccer game across from Der Roto Baron runs in two different modes? I haven't figured out a rhyme/reason to why they run in one mode vs. the other.

The permanent ride rules sign has it setup as a "guess the speed" style game. Kick two soccer balls and then guess the speed of the third within 1mph. In this mode the goalie is meaningless.

Then they have a sign that can hang on top of the permanent sign that puts it into a "score a goal" style game. In this game the goalie is active and you have to score. More goals = bigger prize.

Now, the obvious guess would be maybe the goalie is prone to breakdowns and they still want to be able to run a game despite a breakdown. However, I went on Saturday 27 April and Sunday 28 April.. on Saturday the game was operating in "guess the speed" mode and almost nobody was playing (I was observing it while my young child was in line for Der Roto). On Sunday, the game was operating in "score" mode and a lot of people were lined up to play. I'm not completely sold on the goalie theoretically being broken down on Saturday and fixed Sunday.

But judging by the traffic it was getting Sunday, they lose a lot of potential revenue running it in this "guess" mode.

Disclaimer I have no personal interest in playing games of this nature. I just noticed this multiple mode operation and found it interesting enough to post about.

I was there that Saturday and it was running in score against the goalie mode when I was over in Octoberfest. I wonder if maybe they change every hour or depending on the operator. I never saw the guess the speed mode but I did notice the sign about the guess the speed as it wasn't there before. That is a big money maker for the park (along with 3 point challenge), I think they wanted an alternative in case the goalie was broken. Plus i think the odds are even more in the parks favor in the guess the speed mode.

I think it’s just about variety. If younger kids are dominating the park, guess the speed mode won’t garner as much money. If older kids are dominating the park, make a goal won’t garner as much money.

Also has anyone else felt Oktoberfest just....blah...this year? I can’t explain it. Usually OF and FI have a great energy in them and this year OF just seems....there

I think Darkcastle closing has had an impact. When i was there the area in front of Verbolten to the swings was active but the other half of Octoberfest near Newcastle where the games are just seems to be a ghost town. They need a flat or some attraction on that side desperately.

The only game pulling interest is the game where you try to hang from the bar. Other than that I dont even remembering hearing one balloon pop this season in that area, and thes always been a constant sound in that area.

I noticed this sign by Dark Kastle. It was hiding behind a cover up structure that I think was used during Food & Wine Festival. Is Dark Kastle the New Kastle?

I absolutely love Sum 41, it’s my favorite punk rock band, but why is it playing at IceLands Freeze?
Is that the stand across from Verbolten? When I was there last weekend they were playing MxPx. I wasn't mad at it.

Yes and I enjoy the jams, but it’s also Oktoberfest. I go to the park to escape and be immersed in a place I can’t find anywhere else. I don’t need to listen my post run playlist at the park.

Why are we talking about summer nights in the past tense when it still has three days left?

Yeah, Sum41 and Blink-182 and the rest of the bands on that playlist would be more appropriate at a PBR stand ?

Busch went full out punk this year with the pins and this soundtrack, and I love it
