I realize I'm late to the thought process, but 15K isn't very big. Lidl grocery stores are 15K compared to a Harris Teeter at 54K. Awesome to have another indoor scare house, but 7 aisles of scaring, isn't very scary.

I think you're severely underestimating how big of a maze they can fit into a space of that size. For instance, Last Laugh Industries/Masquerage only used like a thousand square feet of space (if even) and both those mazes had plenty to offer.

And buildings don't have to be big to give a great scare.

But as for the actual space, I was using google earth to doing some measuring, and I'm not sure how much of DK they used, but wouldn't this make it one of the bigger HOS attractions if it was used for that? It's slightly bigger than EfP's event building, from what I've been able to find Lumberjacked.

It's also dependent on the interior layout, the space inside, and how much backstage room they need.

Again while I know it's not the same but our little attraction makes the best of the little we have. and every year we do well.Bigger isn't always better. If you have a really talented artist and some quality help you can do soo much.I know the team at bgw can pull this off if they really want it to.

So I've been looking at Google maps - specifically at the size of Royal Palace backstage (Catacombs), Festhaus parking lot (where you can actually see Cornered), and the Drachen Fire station (Bitten). When you compare them to the area for this new building, it seems like *2* HOS mazes would fit inside it. If this is a Howl-O-Scream space, it will be interesting to see whether they do two mazes and call it a "village" (NeverAfter, 2007 HOS anyone?) or go for a longer maze and advertise as such.

That said, it's hard to imagine an investment of this nature only being used for Howl-O-Scream.

To me its not that hard to imagine. We have talked on here before that BGW needs to step its game up. Its the 20th year this year. And a lot of Companies have dedicated space in their park for haunt attractions. Plus we are losing Catacombs and i believe one other house this year. This would give them the chance to create two new houses in one location.Plus this would mean a house that they can get some longevity out of. Meaning that while yes change the theme and the layout as needed to keep it fresh, but its inside. Honestly I'm amazed at some of the photos I've seen of things like cornered. Mostly that it has held up as long as they have due to being outside set up all year.
Also depending on what they do with it, it may also become STORAGE for a lot of things for HOS. Which i think will be amazing because they currently have mazes that are at the mercy of the elements and who knows how much the props inside them have been subjected to. As far as latex and other materials have come in respect to prop making, it is still WAYYYY susceptible to extreme hot, cold and damp. So if this becomes a place where they can better store some things too i'm all for it (not saying your not). I just hate to see a good prop or set rot away and this would be a great way to try to combat that. :-3

A rough estimate here:
Prefab metal buildings (think warehouses) are about $25 per square foot, including wiring, foundation, and construction costs. Dependent on height of the building it's about $350,000-$400,000.

I dunno how much spending they do to upkeep outdoor mazes and haunts in a given year, but if they cut down on that spending, but putting up money up front to get a building like that could save them in the long run.

I mean, yes I would love to see them use an investment like that for more than just HOS (considering I'm not a HOS guy), but it all comes down to what BGW's cost benefit analysis said on a project like this.

Simple solution: put a HOS maze inside the building themed to Christmas.  Santa can use it during CT.

As a non-HOS goer, I was wondering this last night:
What would the popularity of a year round HOS attraction be like? I know that sounds a bit strange, but maybe make something that's a walkthough attraction in season, and during the HOS you add actors to take it to the next level.

But really...I just wouldn't be shocked if it's something not used year round. It's just too far off in backstage areas to be something they want people regularly walking to. Also does the train run during HOS? I'm trying to think if this is for guests, what are the ways of getting back there. There's the space next to Trappers, open up a way through/around RPT, or lastly, through Caribou station.

11/10

Best idea ever.

It has the benefit of letting the park recycle Xmas Town decor and traumatizing the kids of irresponsible parents. Plus it lets the Krampus finally come to The Olde County.

I, personally, loved the haunted walk-through at Morey's Piers. It is open year-round, but I have no idea how popular it is in the regular season.

Similarly, Wonderland Park in Amarillo, TX has a great classic dark ride, which is haunted-ish. My friends and I loved that one, as well.

Wow i may have to check some of these out.
I love dark rides and haunted attractions in general lol so anytime i can get a good scare i love it. But to be honest its more about the aesthetic for me. I love the time and effort that goes into a really well constructed haunt or dark ride so i'm willing to go through it a gazillion times to get a look at the details.

The train does run during HOS. I think it makes for a good break from the crowds plus the skyride is a really cool view during HOS too.
