I heard something about the steel life with Nessie. Something about the steel bring too old and needing to be replaced Soon? Any merit to this?

Definitely was available, as I have it framed and hanging in my house, and may still be available from one or more of a variety of online vendors. Search for artist Boris Vallejo.

Hey thanks so much!! Do you have a pic of yours? Would love to see it.

Nooooo

I haven't heard anything but given the parks recent investment in new trains, new paint, and the return of the special effects it seems very doubtful that they shelled out that kind of cash without the expectation of another 5 to 10 years out of her at a minimum.

This better mean a "Hulk" / "Python Efteling" treatment, a total retrack while keeping the layout.

The Nessie thread isn’t the place for it, but I heard a rumor on my last trip to IoA (when they were replacing Hulk and started talking about taking out the Dragons) about those coasters. What I was told is the answer is quite a bit more in depth than “metal fatigue” and more early year maintenance issues with IoA and UO not having rides like that before.

Completely honestly, although it is a classic, if it ever came down to a retrack (which I highly doubt), I wouldn't mind some slight changes to the layout. Call me a heretic, but completely objectively, it is a pretty poorly paced layout. It has its strong moments, but Arrow/Vekoma have done much better in the years after LNM's opening.

Considering the track is fully welded together, unlike other coasters out there that are bolted together, they would need to fully replace the entire ride including the supports if I am not mistaken; I'm pretty sure the supports are welded directly to the track...

There are ways to cut out specific sections. They did it on Iron Dragon this year and replaced just a rail. There is a picture somewhere. But there is ways to replace sections of track bolted or not.

Edit: Found the picture

I recall from the tour that Nessie had quiet a long life ahead of her. The joints have so much overlap and she was so overbuilt that the fatigue is not a big consern. Coasters built later used much less overlap, thinner steal, and less welding so have shorter lives.

IIRC, I dunno if it’s from the tour or a documentary on Arrow...but isn’t there a reason Nessie was so over built compared to other Arrows other than changing building styles?

It's an old Arrow, an all-American (efficiency was not in mind), and the terrain probably intimidated Arrow slightly

I don't remember where I heard it but I seem to recall Arrow significatly over-built because they were trying to impress and as Gavin said they were in uncharted territory in terms of height and speed, further they were building in a difficult area.

Yea I think the one I heard was overbuilding, and forces being in uncharted territory and unsure if the steel could handle it. Seems like the 3 of us heard things right in the same area.
