So if anyone hasn't heard, many of the RMC projects around the world have been ordered to shut down... including Lightning Rod.

Some details:

Oh... and I'm typing this from Dollywood. Just my luck. That said, they are comp-ing tickets for anyone who asks so, sometime this year, Lightning Rod will be mine.

Dollywood's inept PR department at work here...

Telling a MAJOR travel publication that L-Rod is open, when it in fact is not. But this isn't a surprise since they are horrible at communicating status updates on this attraction.

Actually, according to their website today, it was open until about 5pm, when suddenly it was listed as down again. When we called to confirm, the customer service rep said they had been told this morning that it would be down all day.

I think someone at Dollywood seriously got their wires crossed. I'm just glad we checked, before driving there from Knoxville.

Here's a post to their Facebook page just a couple hours ago...

"Today the workers out front told me that they thought they were opening today, and the full ride crew showed up but they never opened. One of the trains is sitting out on the tracks. They said they hope it opens tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!"

Why do all of the best parks have the absolute worst marketing departments? I get that the situation really sucks for everyone involved, but for the good of their customers, they really need to be as transparent as humanly possible. Twiddling their thumbs and ignoring guests asking them questions about the ride's status on social media is not ok.

Related - in a way - happy to be joining the forum here after Robb Avley removed me from his little Theme Park Review for calling him out for insulting my intelligence after he himself has called out others for being rude and disrespectful. Obviously he doesn't have to play by his own rules as "moderator". Hopefully there can be some true support and constructive discussion about things here.

First of all, welcome to Park Fans.

Second, not surprised about Alvey. He banned a friend of mine from TPR because he was friends with someone Alvey didn't like.

So.  Any word on when LR will be fully up and running?

I'm hearing some time this week but honestly, who the heck knows?

It's ridiculous that they're still trying to mask the issues by continually labeling this a "technical rehearsal" when the season is already half over.

Was at Dollywood July 12-14. No activity by the ride. They claim it's in "technical ride rehearsals" But it was shut down the whole week.

Just to kill some time, I did get a few shots of the ride. It's beautiful to say the least.

L-Rod opened back up a couple days ago but the DW website still says the ride is in "technical rehearsal."

Aug 06 The Lightning Rod roller coaster is now in technical ride rehearsal. The ride may be subject to temporary closure or delays from time to time.

We've been wondering how we can plan a return trip to use our raincheck tickets, since the site always says that, and because LR seems to be down so much.

I think they may keep the "technical rehearsal" warning up for a while, since they've had such bad luck with getting it open all season long. From what I've heard, none of the recent downtime was due to the launch so that to me points to an issue with the trains (possibly the restraint system). There also have been no programming issues with the ride.
