RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

You are right Nic to a point. Animals are a central theme for the other parks because their themes lend better to allow animals to fit into the parks to help support their themes. Obviously, SeaWorld is a theme park based on sea life. It makes perfect sense to have sea life exhibits all around the park. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is African themed. African has many exotic and large animals as well as a variety of animals to help promote that theme. Look at safaris, oasis, etc. They are filled with a rich variety of animals that can be used to build upon that African theme. Aquatica and Discovery Cove promote their dolphins and sea life because they are water parks and water naturally lends itself to the oceans and the creatures that live there. Having sea life would help support the theme of those parks.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg is Europe themed. If the company were to try to emphasize the parks animals in all of their parks, it would make sense to continue with the growing trend of following the specific animal-based themes. So you should see more deer, caribou, cattle, dogs, wolves, pigs, sheep, hedgehogs moles, bats, bunnies, porcupines, lemmings, bears, fox, weasels, cats, horses, oxen, goats, monkeys, muskrats, mongooses, and that just covers some of the mammals alone. I would love to see more animals incorporated in the themes. Caribou in New France, wolves by DarKastle, deer in England.

I think that too many people just want to see any animal because their all just oh so adorable. Why should they just start adding animals that have no reason to be there. Scotland is amazing with their exhibits. You have a barn owl, actually in a barn (or was, just moved beside it now). You have sheep and horses actually grazing in a pasture with a stable. Fairly soon we will see scottish cattle grazing in a pasture in Scotland. Those are a few things that can be done to support the Scotland theme.

As I mentioned wolves by DarKastle can help support the DarKastle theme and German forest theme. Deer in England, I would have put them where Forest of Fun is and that would be used as a forest/pasture area. That would help promote that theme. Caribou right by the Caribou Station would help promote the New France theme.

The company has shown that only specific animals belong at certain parks because of their themes. I doubt you will ever see an orca at BGT or a lion at SeaWorld. It just doesn't make sense to add an animal to a park where it is not needed that many other animals could fit into the theme much better.

I love animals, they are cute, awesome, fun, lovable, and all that jazz. I just think people put way too much into them. If you look at the animal rights groups, they put the absolute most into caring for animal, so much to the point the hurt animals more than they help. It is not a healthy relationship. I love animals, but they have their place.

Nic, the difference between your hatred for shows and my dislike of the animals is I actually do want the animals but in a place where they fit properly, as for shows, you have made it clear you could careless if they were even in the park. the thing is though, I do want them in the park but if you are going to have animals, do it right and put them in places they belong.

With that said, I wouldn't want them to add rides just to add rides or add shows just to add shows. While I think the park seriously does lack in providing major shows, I don't want them to add a show that just doesn't completely match the theme. (London Rocks! does still match the British and European themes, thus I have no major issues with it)

And yes, I would love to see European Swallows in the park.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

Actually, BGT has started including non-African animals. They have an amazing kangaroo/wallaby exhibit. I'm on fence about whether that is good or bad. What I do know is that I love feeding the Roos and petting the wallabies. And once again, the area is cut off from the rest of the park.

I don't think that the wolves next to Darkastle is the problem PR. It's the appearance of the 15 foot fence to keep them in. That would not look so good.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

Nic, I will give you the roos and wallabys. Now while these animals are not African, there are some things that I could help me overlook that fact. Such as they are accustomed to and they are associated with desert-like environments. I would go so far to say their natural environment slightly mimics that of some of the African plains/deserts. Also, you said they were more cut off from the rest of the park, secluding them is something the could help me look past that; however, it is still not ideal.

Mazakman, who needs a 15 foot fence :p Honestly though, I mentioned there is a ravine to the side of Der Marketplatz and the Airbrush Studio that they could fit them into that area easily. There is already a nice cliff sized ledge from the park pathway to the actual ground, probably near 12 feet max. They just have to lower the ground slightly or higher the fence a bit. I really do think that area could work for the wolves. Then image during Howl-o-Scream they move the owolves out of that habitat and put scare actor werewolves in there :p

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

I'm sorry PR, but there are so many things that you have allowed the park to have, that is so off-theme, it's unimaginable. You don't care if they play pop in the park. You don't care if the hamlets are themed to present day, you don't care about advertisements that are huge eyesores. But you do care if they want to put a couple animals in the park? Now I want things to stay on-theme, don't get me wrong, but when an animal exhibit is so small and hidden that it's barely even noticeble(most of the exhibits for animals outside of the Clydesdales and Wild Reserve are pretty un-noticeble) how does it take the theme away from the area? I would love to supplement the theme, and I think they should with animals, but I also don't mind a small animal exhibit that is off-theme, but is so hidden that it doesn't harm the environment around it.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

Matthew, may I please refer you to my beginning post where I said, I don't care if you call my a hypocrite, at least I own it instead of denying it.

I have to disagree with many of your accusations of me due to them being so generic and basic that they simply do not describe my views. I do care if they play pop, there are certain situations that it can be allowed, but not in an everyday basis with no apparent show or special event. Hamlets do not stick to any specific time period. If Deadline is allowed, than so should other modern day theming. There are really no major eye-sore advetisements. In fact the one that comes closest is the lawn mowers; however, this past weekend I have concluded that those mowers are completely surrounded by bushes and such that cover up the bright orange (as well as the orange is fading somewhat) mowers. They are not a huge eye sore because walking through your eyes are not attracted to them unless you are standing right next to them.

It's not about putting a couple of animals in the park. It's about putting animals in places that simply stand out and do not fit in. Would you be okay if they put an orca exhibit in New France? No, because it just simply doesn't work. In fact, all of the animal exhibits (with the exception of maybe the eagle in New France) stand out, but that is probably because all the animal exhibits are large and are only found in the Wild Reserve and Scotland.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

Did I say I would like an orca exhibit in France? No. Is that the stupidest example ever? Yes. Did I say, it was okay to bring in animals, as long as they didn't conflict with the surrounding areas? Yes. Did I say it was okay to put any animal anywhere? No. Did you make false accusations about what I said? Yes. Do I care about this conversation anymore? No.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

Just to clarify, orcas would technically fit in newFrance since their native range extends to all the waters around Canada. Beluga would also fit in, based on habitat ranges. Unfortunately nobody has said we want crazy exotic animals. We just said we want to see more animal exhibits.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

I'm going to put into this conversation about the wolves.
1) wolves are endangered animals and because of works like Busch Gardens and their conservation efforts along with Yellowstone park the grey wolf population is starting to come back.
2) Jack Hannah's Wild Reserve is the theme of the hamlet with conservation undertones. I think it is good of the park to promote this type of thing because without this type of awareness many people would probably live in an uneco-friendly way and we wouldn't be able to see these animals anymore in the wild.
3) Were you there on Sunday in the park to hear the wolves howling? Hearing the wolves howl was an amazing to witness. I had never seen anything so awesome before in my life.
4) Orcas and Belugas in France and New France? I don't really agree with this because it would make the park less BGW and more Sea World.

I get the feeling he was joking. ;)

Anyway, I think the Wild Reserve fits just as much as New France does. No, it doesn't really follow the European path directly, but it still perfectly fits the feel and overall theme of the park.

RE: Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve

I'm not complaining that there are wolves. I want wolves there. I do think they can be better used elsewhere in the park.

I'll let Joe win this topic of debate.

Ok, so I was wondering, has Wild reserve always been at the park, if so, what kind of animals were there. If not, what was there before? Thanks! :)

That is the link to a great selection of photos of the area. Threadneedle was a very fun and popular area where actors interacted with guests in games and an actual show. That was located where "the secret life of predators was located.

Any hint on what the red dots painted on the ground from Killarney to the railroad tracks by Aquitaine might be about?

Well the park is in need of a Dragon. Remember Manta at SWSD? That was built by Mack. Helix was built by Mack. Connor loves Macks. BGW should love Mack and put in a Mack. I wouldn't mind a Mack at all. Maybe when Carl said "It's gonna be big." He could be talking about a plan there going to announce along with (new 2015 ride name).
