Bringing back this thread because universals recent actions have indicated that they are much better than Disney IMO. Even the most biased Disney Fanboi has to agree that they are stepping up their game and want really bad to be the first true threat to Disney. Theres a reason I didn't visit Disney when I went to Orlando this year- nothings changed....

Uni beats WDW on East Coast but on the West Coast it is a FAR different story. Uni LA is a waste of money. Flat out pathetic.

All the shiny new toys Universal gets also benefits Disney in the long run too. More and more people are coming down to Orlando to spend time at Uni, but they still play second fiddle to Disney in terms of attendance numbers.

Disney still has New Fantasyland and Test Track 2 to bring people through the gates. Even though it's pretty small stuff now, there's still the 7 Dwarves coaster and Beastly/Avatar/whatever Kingdom coming in a few more years to look forward to.

I'll say with Potter 2, Springfield, Jurassic Park 2, and Transformers in the works, Universal's definitely stepping up their game. Coupled with Antarctica, and Tampa's rumored expansions, Orlando itself is becoming a serious hotbed of new attractions for the next few years or so. To an extent, SoCal's pretty much becoming the same way too, but to a lesser extent.

But even with Universal playing out all their cards, Disney's still top dog in town

FLE is nothing worth making a visit over. One mediocre darkride and an impossible to get in restaurant is nothing. The yet to open five year to build kiddie coaster has been so castrated for the sake of bottom dollar will do little as well. HAve you been on TT2.crap? The narration and visuals are flat out turd. It is only a fun ride after drinking around The World and buzzing your ass off.

4. Disney really only applies to kids. Sorry. It's true. And don't get me wrong, I take no issue with a day of 'family' type offerings. But Universal can take more risks and sneak in darker themes, or more thrilling experiences. And at the end of the day, I appreciate that more.

So yeah. Universal. Totally.

That is BOOM Nail on head! Current TDO is hammering a log split between kids and parents to go. Kids are what they are geared for because what parent whats little johnny and jane to be heartbroken because they dont have a $300 dress on like mini Sally. The current business plan is very short term profit because bonuses are generated from immediate gains vs building for long term.

Nothing will EVER top WDW during FW Fest. For the record.

And why not talk of the new word on UniFl?

Oyea it hasn't really hit the net yet. I shall bow out now.

LA is on a smaller piece of land bordered by a working movie studio and residential area. They can only expand so far without affecting either. If they had more land, they could most definitely build an Orlando-style resort.

Seems like you're out of the demographic Disney's trying to appeal to. People are still gonna visit New Fantasyland, even though it's really just a rehashed dark ride, D-ticket coaster, meet & greet, and restaurant just like people are gonna visit Universal for the rehashed Transformers and new land without anything significant other than beer attached to it.

Disney's always kinda been the more "kiddie" theme park. Even then they're still number 1 in the industry. Definitely excited for Uni next year though. I had to miss out because of time constraints this year.

It's not fair to compare the entire Disney company to the entire universal company. If you said IoA vs. Animal Kindom, then IoA, if you said Universal Studios vs. Magic Kingdom, then magic kingdom.

I grew up in LA, and had been to every theme park, including Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, Marineland (defunct) and several others since the mid-70's.

Disney wins hands down. No other theme park on earth can still make me feel like a kid once I walk into it. The memories I have from Disneyland are the ones that stick w/me the most. Universal was fun during the years ET movie came around, and the other places were fun as well, but none matched up w/Disneyland. None. It wasn't and shouldn't always be about thrill rides. I'd take a ride on Mr Toad's Wild Ride at Disney over any coaster that even BGW has. :)

Don't get me wrong... I love "nostalgia" and all that jazz. BUT, I'm sorry I'd take X2 or Tatsu over "mr toad" on most days...
