RE: Howl-O-Scream and the Internet Wayback Machine

Oh man the 2005 site took me back.

Every year in late July/August, I was sitting on my dial-up speed computer, checking that site every day for updates.

the scare zones, Festa Dementia was like the best one they've ever had (It was called that for years.) Not only did it have tons of great theming, (So many clown laying around the garden area, circus props, the works.) And at night, it had the best scare actors, and they weren't those the Dark Knight Joker masks, very few actors wore masks. They just had their faces painted, and each costume was different. And back then they had a little street show type thing, over near the Tradewinds, in that open area (that i think now is picnic tables?? I haven't been on the tradewinds in ages.) But it was all enclosed, with big freak show posters. I never watched the show, I just knew it was there. And then there were the teacups. The teapot was removed, and a clown was hanging upside down in the middle, they had thick black curtains covered in polka-dots, and it was black-lit. (Although that version of the teacups may have been 03-04 time frame, rather than 05.)

2005, sadly was about the year when it started to go downhill-ish (before the past few years, where it has been near disastrous.) The years prior, there was heavy themes in certain spots. And some area that weren't so heavily themed, had a few more scare actors in the path. I can't vouch for the houses, I didn't actually start entering the houses until... 2006??

Ahhh the days where i did nothing but watch shows, and cried while walking around the park, refusing to let go of my dad's hand. Good times... good times...

I really want to know more about the history of Bitten. How similar was it to Deadtime Stories? It seems like the Sleepless Hollow Manor, which first house in there, had a lot of blank space.

Bitten is probably my favorite past Howl-O-Scream maze, but I know it had elements of many other past attractions such as Masquerage. I want photos of that house more than any other Howl-O-Scream attraction.

As I recall, Masquerage was beautiful to look at, extraordinarily long, well designed, but did not do much. (at least when I went through, and I did just the one time... My ex-wife hated theme parks... but I digress) It was a bit of a museum maze, not Deadline bad certainly, but then it is the only maze I have gone through and never seen an actor.

Sorry. I meant Bitten as far as the photos, but Masquerage is a close second as far as that goes. I remember it having a good sense of scale. I actually remember it quite well.

I saw a bunch of photos of the inside of Masquerage on MySpace in maybe 2009. Unfortunately, I can't find them anymore.

Anyway, I was actually talking about photos of Bitten.

i have a question for a maze that used to be in the park around 2006-2008 that i cannot remember. the only memory i have of it was that it was a striped tent, and there were dolls/some sort of head things hanging on the walls.
i think it might be last laugh industry (since it is the only older one that i could think of that might be themed that way?) but i'm not sure.
sorry if this isn't the right thread to ask

Last Laugh Industries was last in the Roman Rapids queue in 2006. In 2007 it was a strange variation as it wasn't an offical house, however there was some form of a house tied to the scare zone Clownfusion. In 2008, the theme took a 180 and Masquerage was introduced.

does anyone have any information on the house Hunted? i tried looking up information on it but i haven't managed to find any of its history.

@Connor and I were actually just talking about Hunted last night. What do you want to know?

Neither of us have the full layout memorized, but we both remember the camo entry tunnel, the hunting cabin set, and the large, main forest scene with the werewolves on bungees.

Maybe someone out there has a better memory of it or even a house layout or scene list?

It was a reverse of the old house called Tormented Tales, I know that much.
Keep in mind Hunted entered on the right in 2009 and the left in 2010. In 2010 maybe my memory is blurry, but I remember the ending hallway consisted of red curtains and werewolves popping out in between them. Does anyone remember this ending or have I just created my own image of the house in my head?

I was quite young when I went through it, but this house holds a special place in my heart since it was the first house I ever did with my father.

The only scene I vividly remember was a scene where you rounded a corner, and there was an oasis-like pond-like thing in the corner of the room, with a single rock at the tip of the pond closest to the walking path. A werewolf was hidden in the darkness above this pond, and would jump down onto the rock and quickly disappear, since he was attached to bungee cables. This was quite possibly the prime scare area in the house since everyone remembers the bungee wolves.

I remember when the guy in front of my dad screamed and my dad goes
"What was that?"
And the wolf proceeded to jump down again and scream
"It was me!"
Allowing my dad to proceed to shay himself

I hope they return the bungee wolves, since it was a way to portray the enhanced abilities of werewolves.

All you need to know about hunted is it was very dark, and much wolves. Quite awesome.

thanks yall!! i was mostly just looking to know about Hunted's history and what the inside of it was like :) it's strange that it only lasted one year; i know werewolves aren't super "scary" but they are my favorite monster by far and i wish they had more time to shine at the park.

There was a lot of camo netting throughout the maze. The bungee scare was the best part of the maze and was also used in Tormented Tales. Adding to Ice729's post: in that scene they had logs on the left with faces recycled from the Grimm's Hollow children's area. The logs acted as a barrier for the actor on the bungee. Once that actor jumped out, another actor on the other side of the room would go for a second scare. It was the ultimate two-way scare.

They had a log cabin with a large front porch and inside of the cabin was an iron maiden and a fireplace, I believe. It looked like a cabin where hunter became hunted by werewolves. In front of the cabin was an overhead scare where a werewolf would usually drop down a vine or something like a cat toy. I also remember a scene with some trees and an animatronic man with the most cheesy sound effects hanging from it upside down. There were also several beautiful murals of German countryside and at the end there was a giant werewolf that came charging at guests with strobes behind him.

The house was pretty fun. Unfortunately, they ruined it when they reversed the layout because the giant werewolf scare was right at the beginning and the guests could no longer see the cabin's porch, which made that scene less believable and exciting. Since these were the only three memorable scenes, I hope the park represents each one in Vault XX.

here I am again with another question!! this one is for help with developing a scare walkthrough based on Tormented Tale's idea of using scary fairy tales.

I know in the defunct thread for The Beaten Path the area of "Tormented Tales" was brought up. I really want to know if anyone has ANY possible video or picture of the actual layout of this scare area or what the characters in it looked like because with this project me and my other members brushed the idea of making our scare walkthroughs all follow the same theme (they are for a haunted trail attraction this halloween) and our troupe leader prompted the idea of using scary fairy tales like the grimm's brothers stories. I think the idea has potential, but I want to know what Busch did when they pursued the subject because I cannot honestly think of one of those stories which are scary enough to actually make someone afraid rather than just creeped out.

sorry for the long post!
**edit: realized tormented tales was the maze i was thinking of!
