RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

Those are so cool. :D So when they remodeled it for Ireland they didn't have to do much construction, in fact some of it was destruction, right? Because the entrance way is the same except part of the tops of the entrance are crumbled and destroyed and have plants coming out of them, same way for the rest of the place. I'm gonna search for some pics now.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

Yea I'm trying to look for anything I can find and try to build this post because I don't think the younger generation can tell a lot about how cool this place probably was.

Here is a Picture walking from Scotland to Hastings, England. I know it's not very big, but it is something. You can tell this picture is old because the stables the horses are in, the white plastic fence isn't there, it's just a real wood fence.

Here is a video of 'The Dark Tower'. It was a Howl-O-Scream maze when Hasting was there. Can you tell where this maze was?

Here is a show from when Hastings was there right before they turned it into Ireland called Rockin' the Boat. The theater looks very different. This is just 1 out of 3 parts.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

I am sad that we missed that era :( My wife and I were real Ren Faire geeks back in the day. We would have loved Hastings.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

Wow, The Dark Tower must had been right before the switchover to Ireland, because they have the Corkscrew Hill cavern walls as part of it.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

yea, I never thought of that but ur right. wow, cool. I guess it would make sense because Hos is at the end of the year and I'm sure they had a lot of work to do and that just was 1 last thing to work on, plus it's walls fit into the HoS theme of scary.

The queue line has been like that since Questor. Questor was one of my favorite rides ever, I don't recall what was there prior to Questor though. Nora, do you remember what was there?

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

Oh I did always thought the tunnel was just decorated for Corkscrew Hill. What was Questor about?

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

This is footage of the ride after it was moved to Tampa. You can see just how long ago it was in Williamsburg since this video is from 1994.

This ride was so awesome... "Jurbs", classic.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

This video is from the same year I was born! I suppose the rocky walls match the ride since your travelling through Earth and with CSH you are going into a little hole I think? So I think they might get rid of the rocky walls, or they will keep them. Either way I think the walls were great theming for CSH and Questor and Cavern of Darkness. Rocky walls can do wonders.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

I have few memories of hastings, and the like, but they are all good. My most clear memories are of the petting Zoo. Ahhh, Goats ramming you in the rear, Giant turtles, exotic birds, much better than the SS forest of consumerism.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

If you look closely at the rock walls, you can still see faded drawings on them. Those drawings originated from Questor, and were made by Alwyn (the elf guy in the beginning of the video). As far as I can recall, they were the supposed blue-prints for his inventions.

Chris,

I am not sure if you are a big South Park fan or not, but I have to say in response to "jurbs":

"Dey took our jobs!" Dey tuk er jurbs!" "Dey turk mah jurrrb!" "Derka der!".

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

Omg! I so remember Questor! Yes, they had blueprints and stuff drawn on the cave walls too. Wow that's so retro.

Anybody else remember Wizard Works? Was that what it was called? There's a shop there now that's pretty much the same thing but it's called something else. It had all the pewter stuff in it, little wizards and crystals and such. Oh and before the boat thing in the theatre, wasn't it Totally Television? How on earth I remember that is beyond me. I was just a wee merthing at the time. I guess it just stuck out somehow.

And that dragon would pop up from the chamber under the floor at that show that's now Sullivan's Castle... that s*** scared me man, it was so loud and mean looking. I thought it was actually going to come out and eat the guy and then come for the audience. I couldn't understand why everybody was just sitting and watching.

Yeah, the book has some old stuff in it - like a little picture of the remote control boats I loved so much that were located underneath the Loch Ness Monster.

Weren't these boats moved to where Roto Baron is now.

I feel like that's the case, but I've seen old pictures of the park that show Roto Baron in that same spot. Perhaps the boats were where the ATM is now, but I do remember there being boats in that area at some point.

RE: Hastings/ Threadneedle Fair

I beleive the show that merboy is talking of was Rock the Boat. Unless it was before that. I remember going to it when I was young and being bored out of my mind. If you look, there are small circular lights that are along the side of the ABT or whatever the new name is. Those used to be portholes. I also remember the show in Castle O'Sullivan. It was probably a lateral change from the catapult. Then there was that auction thing I never bothered with, and finally Elmo. Grrrr. Gotta hate consumerism.

Chris, I do believe you are right about the exact location. BGW used the shade area for the boats and the area where The Red Baron Flyer ride is now (or where the remote cars or Trabant was) I believe to keep the water from evaporating more than likely as it would be out in the hot sun and the water was pretty shallow.

You would stand where the ATM is now to control the boats and the boats and water were located under the overhang (or what used to be the wait line for the Trabant. I was very fond of those boats!

My favorite was steering one underneath the little bridge that would open up when you passed under it! :D

I definitely remember those boats.

They have put R/C boats in at escape from pompii I saw this weekend(June 5) and have installed paid "water cannons" to shoot at the boat after it comes down the hill..
