I was there last night too, daughter and friends wanted to have dinner at Outer Hanks (we still call it Bubba Gump) and it was closed - so we said OK you want tacos or pizza and it was split we said no worried they have both of them back up near the entrance. Both closed. So we went for pizza next to Cleavers. Last year when this happened I submitted a "contact us" note to the web site asking if they could note which restaurants were not open (like they do with listing rides at the front entrance) so we didn't have to go walking from one side of the park to the other to find a place that we want to eat. I guess that suggestion never went anywhere, oh well.
But the good thing was that the weather held up well and the place was not crowded at all, they got to visit all of the mazes and scare zones.
My wife and I haven't been to Haunt in several years. We now have a 3 year old and are planning to visit this weekend. We definitely would not take her through the mazes, but would like to check out one or two of them ourselves. How scary is the overall atmosphere of the park when you're just walking around? I know we can get her a No Boo necklace, but I don't want to traumatize her. Trying to decide if we should just leave before things get scary.
Even with the no boo necklace, there are lots of questionable props (which are covered up during the day), reduced visibility due to fog, plus a lot of scary sounds and screaming.
I would strongly recommend against taking a small child to Haunt. The atmosphere is designed to be creepy. The props are gory and disturbing. The paths are chaotic and threatening. Even with the No Boo necklace, the actors are still in plan sight, and they wield bloody props and look terrifying. I know the scare zones would have given me nightmares as a child.
Additionally, I would suggest that while the No Boo lanyard is a possible solution for the individual, it affects everyone else's experience, as well. The actors have to avoid frightening the person with the necklace, which means that everyone in the vicinity misses the opportunity for the scare, as well. Since people pay a lot of money to experience a terrifying event, I think that except in very special cases, the No Boo lanyards are actually fairly selfish, as they deprive everyone else. Taming down haunt for the individual has broader effects on everyone else, which does not seem fair to me at all.
