If anyone has reviews of Celtic Fyre, go ahead and post them in this thread.  I'll also be posting reviews on the main site, just let me know if you don't want your review posted.

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

I really liked it. They took what was best about Emerald Beat, combined it with bits of Now this is Oktoberfest, and throw in some pieces of Monster Stomp to make a really good show. Good job Busch Gardens. You have a winner on your hands.

I liked the show even though I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of originality in it. One of the creators behind the show came from Riverdance and before that he was in Irish Thunder. A couple of parts are so close to Riverdance (like Trading Taps), but at least they didn't actually do the Riverdance number like they did in Irish Thunder, where rumor has it the last season they took out the Riverdance number after Riverdance found out about it. I didn't think the musicians were all that spectacular either. I'm sure they're capable, but I would like to see a number focused on just the musicians. That said, I liked that it had a story to it, and I liked that they went more traditional in the dancing. EB was good for a season or so, but IT was tons better and its good to see a show more like that. My opinion is, it's better than EB, not quite as good as IT, but I'll definitely watch it every time I go. I'm interested in seeing what the final product is.

Celtic Fyre was amazing. Personally I felt it was very much like a Broadway show and the pacing was well thought out. The crowd interaction was a great addition! I had a blast watching the show and will definitely return again and again. Of course, this is coming from a girl raised with musicals and chorus work, dance lessons and the like.

Chris, I will need more viewings in order to write a proper review as the songs are more unique to the show and not the typical cliche of Irish jigs. I would like to research more behind the show before writing a complete review.

What I can say is that the tap dancing/ Irish dancing number was fabulous and after speaking with a manager, it seems to still be in the works. It is possible the next time I see it, it will be different as they are still testing to see what the public likes best.

Regardless, I love the show and find it refreshing amongst the typical Faire of theme/amusement park entertainment. It took a plot line with a throwback to the movie "Newsies" twist and not just "Danny Boy..cut to Irish Dance..cut to Gaelic chanting.."

Good Job to BGW this year for putting together a unique and quality show. Singers were amazing and I HAVE to get one of those Irish drums!!

Here are some photos I took. :)

I'll throw something else in as well. I don't know if this will stay this way throughout the season, but every single last one of the actors acted like they enjoyed what they where doing. The show is well done, but the actors, in my opinion, even out shine the show.

I saw that too Swiftman. Everyone looked proud of their work and the crowd I watched the show with gave them a standing ovation. That is a first for me at BGW to see that happen.

I doubt that will remain after more and more people see it several times, but I still felt the pride and joy from the actors and that says something.

I want to thank you all for your comments. I've been looking for notices about the new show and must say I'm delighted to hear such positive ones. I'll admit to being no particular fan of amusement parks... but am the mother of a Celtic Fyre performer, so Nora, I appreciated seeing your pix. The comments I've heard from actors bear out your observation of their pride in the work and joy in performing. I'll be heading to BGW tomorrow and will share this thread.
Best regards!

Coaster count, probably nada :)

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

ACM,

First of all, welcome to the forum and I am glad you found us. As you can tell from the photos, I was sitting to the far left of the theater, in the second row back.. yet no one was sitting in front of me. My camera, though nice, is not made for low light high speed movement, but I was lucky to capture some neat images regardless.

I took about 40 photos of the performance and if you would like to see perhaps a certain song or dance during the show, I will see if I have an image of it.

Whoever your son or daughter is in the show, they had to be top notch of a performer to be selected. My choral instructor (this was a ways back) had the voice exactly like Ariel from the Little Mermaid and was beat out by one other because she could not tap dance. She tried out for "That's Entertainment" back in the 80's. When she didn't get selected with a voice like that, I knew competition had to be fierce for any show at BGW. One of my co-worker's sons was in the Christmas show in the Festhaus last year and what a talent! I am so jealous of people who can really sing (like my brother...grrr).

I can play the drums.. so at least I have rhythm, who could ask for anything more right? ;)

Kudos for your child's success and selection and wish for him or her success and year of good memories and fun at Celtic Fyre. The show is unique to Busch Gardens; never have I seen such a Broadway-esque story arch. Hopefully, BGW will continue to follow this road and make a well known venue for aspiring actors/actresses/musicians/singers/dancers to spread their wings and make a name for themselves.

My dad had the good fortune of working with the father of Michael McGuire, an amazing Tony Award Winning Performer. Here is a quote from Michael:

"It's amazing how life comes full circle. Before I hit New York, I was doing concerts - as a strolling troubadour - at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia. At that time, I was in grad school, also performing in a restaurant, and singing paid for the schooling."

Best wishes and please forward your child a big kudos for a job well done!

PS- Hopefully Busch Gardens Williamsburg will start to change your enthusiasm for theme parks. :)

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

The main entrance of the Abbeystone was back open as of today. They built a refreshment stand there selling draft and bottled beer, soda, etc. Pretty awesome :)

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

Hey I am all up for some cold beverages and snacks during any performance. :p Smart move from BGW.

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

Swiftman is on point with this one! Great show. The cast even took time at the end to talk with the patrons of the park.

I'm not a typical show patron, but I saw this Celtic Fire this week and Man! that was a crazy good. I'll be back for sure. It's a rare thing to find such talent at a regional park.

well done BG...

hey, can you post more pictures of some of the dancing? You actually took some nice shots! :]

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

I'm sad to report that Celtic Fyre had their last performance of this season today at 5:00pm. Many cast members were in attendance. A banner stating "we'll miss you" was at one exit.

Several cast members stated that they will start getting the theater ready for HOS.

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

Really disappointed I missed the last one, I heard it was great and that the performers were having a great time up there. I'm sure it will be back next year!

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

I enjoyed the show alot. Im not even into tap dancing or musicals but it was a very good show.

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

Today prior to the 3:30pm performance, the theatrical department decided it would be a good idea to fill the Abby Stone Theater with theatrical fog. The fog was so thick it was actually billowing out of the doors. The standard pre-show announcement stated that the Abby Stone is a non-smoking venue. The audience got a good laugh out of that. The fog was so thick it obscured the rear of the stage so much that you could not read the menu boards on each side of the bar. The fog did lift a bit during the show, but this stuff needs to stop!!!

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

There is plenty of smoke in bars, provided their localities haven't banned snoking in resturaunts. :p

RE: Celtic Fyre Reviews

I am sure it is to give that smoky feeling, which actually when it's just right is totally killer.
