Thank you to everyone for all the detailed information especially Nicole.  Our family has three one-park passes bought in 2010.  After reading everything and thinking about how and when we have used the park these past years we decided one of us would upgrade to Unlimited while the other two stayed the same for now.  We expect BGW will begin to curtail benefits for the old passes beginning in the 2019 season; guessing parking and possibly blackout dates which is still more than fair of them. We will most likely transition the other two next year as money is a consideration in our decision.  Upgrading one pass this year allows us access to Christmastown for all three pass holders.

As we live five hours away I upgraded by phone which took me 23 minutes. Even though we are enrolled in EZ Pay I had to enroll again for the new pass. There is a one-time service fee of $5.99 so first installment is $20.99. I was asked for my driver's license number and credit card information. My original EZ Pay was then cancelled.  The customer service agent was not sure if I would have to create a new BGW Pass Member account online but thought I should be linked to my original account which still has the remaining two passes.  Immediately I received an email in which I had 48 hours to respond.  The whole process is not valid until you accept the terms and conditions via the email.  Once I did I was able to print a voucher for my new Unlimited pass which I redeem at the self service kiosk my first visit.  Looks like you keep your same pass number.  I was expecting a new one.

So far my transition has been smooth.  BGW has clearly been thoughtful about the process.  Our family really appreciates their kindness in allowing us to transition at a pace that is doable for us.  Plus it looks like we will save money once the Christmastown price increases are in place.

Why would they need your driver's license number?

Wisdom from a mug ~ In the time before airlines & electricity, the countries of medieval Europe developed distinctive styles architecture suited to their regions. Traditions & culture grew separately as well. The diverse heritage of many Americans is celebrated here in Busch Gardens at Williamsburg.

Don't know.  I questioned the request but the reply was because they're required to ask. Not an answer but I complied as I wanted a pass.

Regarding Christmastown we are counting on using at least one of the free tickets and if needed hopefully pass members will be able to purchase a guest ticket at a reduced price.

Clarification: about half of my 23 minutes on the phone was spent on hold. The process itself was not that long.

If I've already made January, February, and March EZ pay payments on my pass, but then I upgrade to a membership by March 31st, will those three payments be refunded? I heard refunds would be given for 2018 passes purchased outright, but I didn't hear if that applies to the EZ pay payments as well.

If you are within the first 12 months, then those payments will be applied towards your new 1-year commitment. If you are beyond the 12-month initial contract, the new payments will replace the previous, and you will have a new 1-year commitment.

The Membership is not a pass. You are not paying for admission for a year; you are paying for access to benefits. While you can still pay for it annually, the park is trying to get away from the notion that members buy passes each year.
