Carowinds Shooting

Juvenile shot in carowinds bus parking lot.

WBTV News Wrote:FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) -

A juvenile was taken to the hospital after being shot in the Carowinds parking lot Monday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 7:30 p.m. in the Carowinds bus parking lot on the 14500 block of Carowinds Boulevard. Investigators had parts of the parking lot taped off.

According to Trent Faris with the York County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened on the South Carolina side of Carowinds in the bus parking lot.

Faris says they don't believe it was a random act of violence.

“We believe this was an isolated incident. I can tell you we believe it stemmed from an earlier argument that happened inside the park,” Faris said.

Thomas Murray watched a stream of emergency vehicles enter the park.

“Started to hear a lot of sirens. Police, close to probably 20 police cars. Sheriffs, York County, Charlotte,” he said.

Carowinds officials said in a statement that the victim was a juvenile male.

"At approximately 7:20 pm, Carowinds security officers reported a shooting in the bus parking lot outside of the park," the statement read. "We can confirm that a juvenile male has been transported for medical treatment. We are assisting both Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and the York County Sheriff’s Office in this active investigation."

Investigators have not made any arrests, but describe the suspect as a "light skinned male" driving a light blue car, possibly a Dodge Charger or Magnum.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the York County Sheriff's Office.

Update:
14-year-old shot twice in bus parking lot outside Carowinds

WSOCTV News Wrote:YORK COUNTY, S.C. - Police are looking for whoever shot a teenage boy Monday night in a parking lot at Carowinds theme park.

Deputies said a 14-year-old was shot twice in the abdomen by a man who drove up and fired several shots at him in the parking lot of the amusement park.

The call for shots fired went out just after 7 p.m. on the South Carolina side of the park that straddles the state line.

Deputies said the victim, a 14-year-old boy, was shot twice in the abdomen.

Paramedics said the teen suffered serious injuries, but there has been no update on his condition.

"We are assisting both Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and the York County Sheriff’s Office in this active investigation" Carowinds officials said.

Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident and deputies said they don't think the incident was random.

"We view this as an isolated incident," York County Sheriff's Office spokesman Trent Faris said. "I can tell you we believe it stemmed from an earlier argument that happened inside the park."

He said the shooting happened as the park was closing.

"By the time we arrived, it was fairly calm," Faris said.

Deputies said an eyewitness at a gas station just outside the park on Carowinds Boulevard heard someone in the suspect's car talking about going to the park and assaulting the victim.

A short time later, the shooting happened.

No arrest have been made, but Channel 9 discovered Tuesday morning that a search warrant was issued for a possible suspect.

Police were looking for a blue Dodge Magnum, and the search warrant revealed that CMPD found that car with a paper tag in the parking lot at Waterford Square Apartments on Pineville-Matthews Road in south Charlotte.

The vehicle has been towed to the York County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses told police that a man with dread locks got out of the car and fired several shots at the victim.

The report noted that two girls were fighting near the victim when he was shot, but it didn't indicate whether the argument played a role in the shooting.

Responding deputies found the teenage victim sitting in the grass when they arrived.

The park was closed Tuesday and is now operating on weekends only under its regular fall schedule.

Someone explain to me why they are the South East anchor again? However to be fair, I am not certain what, if anything the park could have done to foresee or prevent this event.

The teen hordes have been a problem there. The metal detectors only prevent major incidents inside the park (other than mass fights that spill into the parking lot) which is why the parking lot (and gas stations) ends up being the danger spots. I don't know how they could contain such variables. It might be that raising the price point has helped to make if less affordable for the less desirable. To risk being totally stereotypical, the GP has seemed more family/classy and less gang/trashy in appearance this season. SCarowinds will be the litmus test, as usual.

Update:

Authorities charge man after teen shot in Carowinds parking lot

WSOCTV Wrote:YORK COUNTY, S.C. - Brock Alexander Beuley-Goodridge, 22, was charged with attempted murder Tuesday in the shooting of a teenager Monday night at Carowinds.

Deputies said a 14-year-old boy was shot twice in the abdomen by Beuley-Goodridge, who drove up and fired several shots at him in the parking lot of the amusement park.

The call for shots fired went out just after 7 p.m. on the South Carolina side of the park that straddles the state line.

Paramedics said the teen suffered serious injuries, but there has been no update on his condition.

"We are assisting both Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and the York County Sheriff’s Office in this active investigation" Carowinds officials said.

Deputies said there was an argument inside the park earlier in the day between teenagers, and Bewley-Goodridge inserted himself into the argument. Hours later, the dispute ended up in the parking lot, where teen was shot twice in the stomach area.

"We view this as an isolated incident," York County Sheriff's Office spokesman Trent Faris said. "I can tell you we believe it stemmed from an earlier argument that happened inside the park."

He said the shooting happened as the park was closing.

Sheriff's investigators don’t believe there was ever a gun inside Carowinds. They believe Beuley-Goodridge pulled up in the bus parking lot, got out of his car and fired at the victim.

They said he fired the gun recklessly, without concern for others who were around in the area at the time.

Deputies said an eyewitness at a gas station just outside the park on Carowinds Boulevard heard someone in the suspect's car talking about going to the park and assaulting the victim.

A short time later, the shooting happened.

Police were looking for a blue Dodge Magnum, and a search warrant revealed that CMPD found that car with a paper tag in the parking lot at Waterford Square Apartments on Pineville-Matthews Road in south Charlotte.

The vehicle was towed to the York County Sheriff's Office where it is being processes for evidence.

The park is between two of the fastest growing cities in the country and an under-served market in South Carolina. There's almost no competition surrounding Carowinds.

I am worried about SCarowinds though. They couldn't even wait until mid-September to start attacking people.
