Quick overview….much new paint, new wooden fences in many places. Intimidator is still themed to Dale Earnhardt after the suspicion 40% sale on all merch last year, prompting rumors of a re-theme. The Intimidator crew was cheering riders on for departure and arrival. Many greetings and smiles from employees (CW must have gotten the messages about previous year sour pusses). Clean outside (even scrubbing garbage lids around the park) but bathrooms were another story.

Rearranged drinks location in Harmony Hall an improvement in flow and clutter. Vortex was down much of day with Drop Tower and WindSeeker down for a bit. HUGE new warehouse built behind the old storage area (pics next time if I remember). The new Starbucks looks nice but is far from finished inside. The waterpark is still mostly mud. Long way to go here. The miniature golf area is gone but not apparently incorporated into the waterpark changes. Construction on the waterpark entrance has started.

Long lines plagued the rides and FastPass ticket line. The Easter photo op was nicely done using Snoopy in bunny ears. An area was set up for chalk drawing. The Panthers Drum-line performed throughout the day. The new Cirque Imagine was advertised as was, oddly, the new country show in Harmony Hall…where there was a country show last year.

Plants vs Zombies? uh, I didn't get it. Perhaps just because I'm not into games? I'll leave this up to others to review when they visit. It was hard to tell what I was shooting at or where my bullets were landing. The seats just rocked forward or backward between levels and stayed stationary during play. Lame and boring with bad lines and no way to pick the Zombie or Plant side. Also, they only use one side of the theater. The theatre on the other side is dark and used for storage. Something needed upgrading, but this doesn't live up to the hype. So much more could have been done with this. It just missed the mark. The moving entrance sign has been returned to operation. The store area was also reopened in the exit area. The 3D clown themed house here during SCarowinds is likely gone.

Most ride ops were being interactive with riders. Even the carousel was prompting yells, chants and question/answers. Some of the new flats have already arrived and are clearly visible under the Fury325 return track. The 3D theater refurb is nice, but Intimidator and Cobra need a paint job ASAP. Intimidator almost looks pink. The new mobile app shows ride wait times (how hard would it be for BGW to do this?).

There was a plethora of Peanuts characters out to hug or take photos with. The Mayor and 2 other characters were also roaming about.

They have also started their PhotoKey program called FunPix. It is $19.99 per day for the public or $39.99 all season to Pass holders only. This is compared to BGW's $95 (non-pass holder price) which does not include Christmas Town. FunPix also has specially designated FunPix Photo Spot locations were you scan a QR code with your mobile device to "unlock super-cool frames and borders for one-of-a-kind photos".

All in all, I'd say it was the expected Carowinds. Improvements are continuing. The friendliness, smiles and greetings from any employees we passed was the most remarkable and noticeable of changes to us. Now if they would just let us pick our own ride seating.

Great report BGW Family! The wife and I will be headed down to Caro on Thursday evening. I'll probably add some kind of report/pictures here. It's been exactly a year since we rode Fury and are definitely ready for some more! Last year we went on an early 9:30 opening Friday and the fog from evening rain had not lifted, putting the top third of Fury's hill in the clouds. Our first ride on that thing, dropping out of the clouds, was epic! We are hoping for evening rain this year also because there is another 9:30 opening this Friday.

The Wife and I had a great trip to Carowinds this past weekend. We drove down from Richmond on Thursday night and stayed at the Best Western across the street. The price was reasonable at $80 per night. We stayed here last year and the hotel was very clean, so we decided to use it again. This stay was no different. Everything was clean and the staff were friendly.
We awoke to rain at 8:30, but by the time we got over to the park it had stopped. We bee-lined for Fury and our first ride was front row! We rode it a few times and then started our loop. We tried to ride things that we missed last year, which included their Enterprise, Wild Mouse, Carolina Skytower, Woodstock Express, and the new Plants/Zombie thing. While we never actually went into the Plant/Zombie attraction, we did ride everything else I listed. The only reason we didn't try the new theater ride is because we never actually saw it! Not sure how we missed it, but we did.
This year, instead of napping in the car, we went back to the hotel for 2 hours and slept till around 5:00. This proved to be a good decision, because when we got back to the park we were refreshed and ready for more Fury. we rode Fury 8 times all in all, with 2 of them being night rides. Intrimidator only got hit once this year. It really just seems meh compared to Apollos, which we ride all the time.
We used an all day dining plan for the two of us and that worked out just fine. We had quesadillas w/slaw, a pizza meal, and a philly chicken meal. All were decent, but nothing special. The value of the plan was well worth it.
We left with the same feeling we had on our first trip, that we were treated well and we would like to return again next year. Although in all honesty, Fury is the only reason we went in the first place, and the only reason to return. Everything else is good, but the whole park is really underwhelming in my opinion. (I'll add some pictures later after I load them on my computer.)

I'd start a new SCarowinds thread, but nothing much to report. Last Laugh and Cornstalkers are gone. Dark Harvest is in (near Thunder Road's old queue) and the Fair area has been re-themed to Psycho Circus. Other houses are about the same with some tweaks. The Jamnation show is gone with no replacement and that theatre sits dark. Blood Drums has moved to the plaza and the old show there has no replacement. Opening night lines were very low Friday. There was another scuffle with teens Saturday night.

On the upside, they have cool pins for sale!

We also liked these shirts.

Closing time changed from Midnight to 11 pm with the riots and Charlotte's current curfew.
