It is strongly rumored that Cedar Point will be receiving a large B&M dive machine for the 2016 season. Recently, Cedar Fair trademarked the name Valravn. This thread will be a place for discussion and speculation both before and after the coaster is announced.

With that being said, here is my prediction/render for this new coaster!

Lets discuss some exciting possibilities for the thrill capitol of the world!

EDIT: Valravn Officially announced on 9/9/15! Check out Page 3 for more more details!

It's not really much of a rumor as the Sandusky Register reported it as a dive coaster back in January.

Quote:Pull back the curtain.

The Sandusky Register learned Monday details about what Cedar Point might be planning to build at the Good Time Theater location at the park.

A memo from Bolliger & Mabillard, based in Switzerland, appears to detail a new $15 million coaster tagged in the memo as The Dive Coaster.

Bollinger & Mabillard crafted The Dive Coaster, which simulates being in a Bomber that is diving straight down at breakneck speeds.

The Bollinger & Mabillard ride is one of many proposals Cedar Point is looking at for the 2016 season, said Bryan Edwards, spokesman for Cedar Point.

"Our focus is on the 2015 season and launching Rougarou as well as our newly transformed Hotel Breakers," Edwards said.

Bollinger & Mabillard built the Gatekeeper winged coaster, which opened in 2013.

So at this point we know that B&M submitted a bid. Anything more? I recognize that CF has been on a B&M kick for awhile now, but a bid is not the same thing as "will build"

From what I've been hearing from industry people, it's definitely a B&M. As I said in another post, Cedar Fair is on a B&M spending spree right now. Look for more B&M installations company-wide over the next few years.

Also, the much larger gauge Dive Machine style track has been spotted at the B&M Plant in Ohio.

I must say, that the concept layout above is very large for a Dive Machine, even the longest Dive Machine on Earth. To date B&M Dive Machine's have been relatively short layouts. Even if Cedar Fair's new Dive Machine is the longest on Earth I doubt it will be this long. Its a neat layout none the less. I would like to see a very large Dive Machine layout in the future but I have a feeling that they are so expensive that they have to stay as small as we have seen to be feasible and affordable for a park to install.

Just my two cents.

You certainly have a good point there. That dive track is huge. Which also requires very large diameter supports. Steel prices have steadily increased in the last decade. I imagine that building one the size of Griffon today would cost at least 5 million more than it did 9 years ago.

Where? Behind the rabbit?

The price of steel is on a downward trend right now but still higher than it was when Griffon was built. So yes, building one the size of Griffon nowadays would cost more than 2006.

If they are budgeting $15m for this new ride I don't think it will be much larger than Baron 1898 at the largest. Griffon was $15.8m in 2007 and is 3,108 ft, but I wonder how much of that price tag was USA exclusivity.

It looks like the longest one is "Dive Coaster" in China at 3,218ft (http://rcdb.com/3930.htm)

Of course you can check out the full list of Dive Machines here: http://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&ml=6803&page=1&order=-8

Is it possible that the $15M figure is the price for manufacturing/B&M only (excludes ground work and construction), and that Griffon's official price tag includes all the construction that took place? I just can't see CP adding a mediocre, small dive machine like Baron or Krake.

I agree, I don't see them adding a small coaster. I also do see them getting much of anything for $15m though, Dive Machine or otherwise. $15m is a cheap roller coaster honestly. I wonder where that news article got the $15m figure from.

It's possible. Some parks will announce a price tag that will be just for the ride itself and some will include other costs such as construction, marketing, theming, etc. When Holiday World announced the Voyage in 2005, the press release said it would be part of a $13.5 million park expansion for their new Thanksgiving section with $6.5 million of that being invested for the Voyage alone.

As far as CP's next coaster goes, I have a feeling this will be much more than the rumored $15 million mentioned in the article.

Cedar Point now has a count-down clock on their web site. 08-18-2015 is the announcement date.

I assume, since this comes over 1 week before Carowinds 2016 announcement, that CP is getting the biggest capital expense for next year? Seems the park with the biggest future attraction gets to announce it first before anyone else in the park chain gets to announce theirs.

I was wondering what the clock was for. That makes sense to me.
