Perhaps marking tree clearings or other landscaping changes. This could be completely unrelated but take it as you may.

They've been there since basically the start of the season. They shouldn't have anything to do with this project. Be on the lookout for markings on trees or ribbons around trees- especially between Flying Ace and Shockwave. I imagine we should see the first evidence of work show up somewhere around that area.

But they might replace the trees with fake flowers and plastic vegetables and fruit! Isn't that the same thing?

Yes, those are amazing! But it's just awful when that animatronic fungi starts growing.

Carowinds' "Big Splash" will be announced on Thursday August 27th. This is something to keep in mind for Kings Dominion's 2016 announcement as last year the WaterWorks expansion was announced on the same day as Fury 325 (Thursday, August 21st).

Past announcement dates include...
2009: Intimidator 305 - Thursday August 20, 2009
2010: Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular - Monday November 22, 2010 (I wouldn't count this one)
2011: Windseeker/Dinosaurs Alive - Thursday September 1, 2011
2012: Planet Snoopy Expansion - Wednesday September 12, 2012
2013: 40th Celebration - Thursday September 12, 2013
2014: Water Park Expansion - Thursday August 21, 2014

This article really has me convinced that we will see some old attractions returning to the park eventually.

Apple Turnover?
Vertigo (Himalaya)?
Monster?

WOW!!!! Great find!

I had been focusing so much on the recent Cedar Fair 2nd quarter earning report/call info; especially what the chain was looking at with virtual reality combined with a ride experience as a future possibility. This article caught me totally off-guard!

I wonder if some of the Cedar Fair park fan and history sites caught the attention of upper CF management? Even KD's Facebook site had a ton of "Bring Back" comments over the last 2 years with the 40th anniversary celebration. Plus, KD Golden Year's Facebook site has been a treasure trove of Kings Dominion's history, including all the former rides and attractions.

I wonder if we might see some of the "Finds" in CAG for 2016?

The Kilimanjaro mountain is sitting there, waiting patiently, for these guys to bring a Bayern Curve home to KD. The waterfall in that little mountain looks so lonely. This would be one old school ride that I would Q up for on every single visit!

Since reading the LA Times article and some of what has been discussed here and in other places about future attractions, I wonder if Kings Dominion might create a mini-section within the larger Candy Apple Grove area in 2016.

A couple themes come to mind.

1) "The Apple Orchard" - featuring real apple trees planted all over, with 3-4 old-fashioned flat rides spread throughout the Shock-Wave's site. The rides would feature apple oriented names like in the old days. Rides making a comeback would be an enterprise ride (old/new), The Return of the Monster flat. I could see a vertigo style ride too. Maybe a basic ride like a Tilt-A-Whirl.

2) A "County Fair" section with a theme of an old-fashioned rural county fair atmosphere from the 1920's-1930's. Same sort of flat ride collection as above.

If money was no object for 2016, in addition to what is above, I would want the return of a couple more flat rides to be placed in Safari Village. The return of the Bayern Curve in the original Mt. Kilimanjaro Mountain and the return of the Time Shaft Rotor ride. The Time Shaft could be added to the side of the existing mountain; say, behind Mt. Kilimanjaro, with the entrance from the Flight Of Fear plaza.

Anyway, some fun themes to dream about!

I've been giving this some thought (some as in, 2 minutes while I get up and get coffee) and I kind of hope Shockwave isn't replaced with a coaster. Or, I should say, if they choose to go in a direction like mwhinva points out, I wouldn't mind. KD already has a good amount of smaller/medium coasters. And, Shockwave's footprint is pretty tiny. If they decide to use that real estate for something other than a coaster, it might be for the best.

What appears to be the first building permit was filed with Hanover County on July 2nd, 2015.

$500,000 seems like an appropriate price to remove a crappy coaster. Rest in pieces.

As of July 31st, this was the only building permit filed. With the announcement happening sometime this month (rumored Thursday August 20th), I'd expect to see more building permits filed within the next month.
