Restaurant: Trapper's Smokehouse
Meal: Smoked Brisket Sandwich
Price: $10.29

Pros: Can't go wrong with brisket! However, I was shocked to discover that this is a COLD sandwich. I thought it would be like the freshly-cooked, warm brisket in the sampler platter; I almost passed on this meal because of it. I'm very glad that I didn't, though. That being said, it was absolutely delicious! The cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and herb cheese bread combined for a tasty treat to my taste buds! And it filled me up quite well (a big boy)!!

Cons: The sandwich is kind of small...considering the rather high price. I expect more sandwich for $10+. It also comes with a side of cole slaw. I don't like cole slaw. I was allowed to choose between the standard chips or green beans. I chose the beans. I wish I hadn't. I'm sure there are plenty of people who like the smokehouse green beans, but to me they are practically raw, then sprinkled with pepper and other spices. Yuck. I couldn't eat them. I doubt I will ever get this meal again, but if I do, I suppose I will choose the chips.

Recommended: Maybe, if you don't mind the cost/size issue. I love brisket. But the cons on this meal outweigh the pros this time.

Restaurant: Italy Snack/Beer Stand
Meal: Antipasto Platter
Price: $7.99

Pros: All of the sliced meat tasted OK (capicola/gabagool, prosciutto, pepperoni & salami). The fresh mozzarella balls (2) were really good. I ate the olives; never been a big fan, but I am beginning to develop a taste for them. Though not listed on the menu, you get two different packs of crackers to eat with your samples. One is kinda cool (see pics below).

Cons: The roasted red peppers were not for me. I don't like them. Bleh! Also, for what amounts to essentially being a fancy Lunchable with no drink, the price is rather high for the amount of food you get.

Recommended: Though it tasted OK for the most part, it left me unsatisfied. And given the price, I cannot in good conscious recommend this. So it must be a big NO. Frowning

Restaurant: Das Festhaus
Meal: Sausage Sampler Platter
Price: $9.49

Pros: Generous portions for a sampler. The knockwurst (top sausage in pic) was extremely tasty and juicy. I think this is the same sausage that was used in the currywurst during the F&WF. The smoked sausage (bottom in pic) was by far my favorite of the sausages. The bratwurst (middle) was OK. The German potatoes were sweet and flavorful as always. The roll was good for sopping up the plate of yummy juices. I do not like sauerkraut and was allowed to substitute for chips. Cool

Cons: Though I'm sure some folks love the red cabbage, I did not. I don't even like regular cabbage. But I gave it an honest try. As a matter of fact, I had three bites just to be sure.

Recommended: Definitely!! Meal was delightful, filling, and at a good price.

Restaurant: Squire's Grill (England)
Meal: Old Country Breakfast
Price: About $6
Pros: The muffin was toasted/buttered and turned out great. The potatoes were crispy and delicious. The bacon was okay, but you get your choice between that and sausage. The price is also very good for what you get.
Cons: The scrambled eggs were under-salted and somewhat bland. Nothing I couldn't fix myself, however.
Recommended: Yes, overall a good dish.

Restaurant: Das Festhaus
Meal: Oven Roasted Chicken Platter
Price: $10.79

Pros: The seasoned chicken really was excellent! So flavorful and juicy. Mmmm mmmmm!! The German Potatoes as always were sweet and yummy. The fresh roll was OK and good for sopping up the plate.

Cons: Once again, my old nemesis, the red cabbage, had to be substituted. The de facto substitute still seems to be the chips...which are fine. I cannot stand red cabbage. Yuck!!

Recommended: Oh yeah! Not a bad price for a filling, delicious meal.

Restaurant: The "Talking Tree" Stand
Meal: Bacon Wrapped BBQ Pork Leg
Price: $10.99 ($8.99 without bacon)

Pros: This thing is REALLY good. I only got to try it without bacon because they were sold out. It was super juicy and can stand alone as a meal. They do have BBQ sauce to put in a little cup if you ask for it.

Cons: You only get one?

Recommended: Definitely. This could easily be my new favorite thing to eat at the park if I ever get an opportunity to get one wrapped in bacon.

*This is NOT a pork "leg" as the name on the menu implies. This is a pork SHANK. All of the other eateries that offer this got the name right. Why is the sign on this particular stand always screwed up somehow?
**BTW, other places like the Coca Cola Market have this pork shank, but only offer it plain; meaning WITHOUT bacon.

Restaurant: The "Talking Tree" Stand
Meal: Bacon Wrapped Turkey Leg
Price: $10.99 ($8.99 without bacon)

Pros: Even though I haven't had a turkey leg in many years (too expensive), I have always loved them. This one did not disappoint. And as a bonus it was wrapped in...BACON!! The smoked turkey itself was super delicious. Makes me feel like a real man burying my face into it while trying to rip off a hunk of flesh. It was wrapped in... not one...not two...not even three or four...but SEVEN (yes SEVEN) pieces of bacon!! The bacon is very flavorful and is definitely worth the extra two dollars.

Cons: As always, smoked turkey legs can be a little difficult to eat with all of the spindly white tendons everywhere. But don't let that deter you.

Recommended: Oh yeah!! Very good. Makes you feel like a caveman.

*Smoked Turkey Legs are offered at stands all around the park. But none of them have it available wrapped in BACON!!

EDIT:

Finally got to try the Bacon Wrapped Pork Shank. Take the comments from Pork Shank without bacon, add the Bacon comments from the Bacon Wrapped Turkey Leg (but with 3 pieces of bacon), and you have this. It has a lot of meat on it and it is DELICIOUS!!

Cup of Grapes are also very sweet and yummy.

EDIT:

Check out these much better images of a PERFECTLY cooked bacon wrapped pork shank:

Restaurant: Das Festhaus
Meal: German Sampler Platter
Price: $14.99

Pros: OK, this is basically another variation on other Festhaus platters. The roasted chicken was excellent. The smoked sausage was also delicious (my favorite of the ones offered here), the German potatoes were sweet and filling, and the fresh roll is always useful for sopping up the plate. Oh yeah! I almost forgot the best part...the baby back ribs!! Super yummy...mouth-watering...just pure GOODNESS. A great thing about this sampler is that there is NOTHING that I need to substitute (Revenge is mine ye ole' red cabbage!!).

Cons: This category is unnecessary for this meal.

Recommended: Definitely! This is a step up from the Festhaus Sampler, and it takes my favorite items from the Chicken Platter & Sausage Sampler and adds a rack of baby back ribs. It also has nothing that I do not like on the plate. I really think this is the meal that should be called the "Festhaus Sampler Platter."

Restaurant: Crepes & Coffee

Meal: Cordon Bleu Crepes

Price: $6.99?

Pros: The ham or pulled pork? with cheese.

Cons: None really.

Recommended: Yes

Other Notes: So I was trying this out, I was unsure about the sauce so I asked for no sauce. Surprisingly this tastes really really good and is a great entree or elaborate snack that is relatively cheap. Essentially the crepe itself tastes funny with the ham and cheese, but otherwise it is definitely something I recommend. Next time I will try with the sauce.

Restaurant: Frost Bites

Meal: Pizza Cone

Price: $5.99?

Pros: Convenient and fulfilling.

Cons: None really.

Recommended: Yes

Other Notes: So this was my night for trying new things. I was really trying to keep away from the pork shanks Tongue However, I was first worried about how do I eat this thing. Well it is essentially a crispy pizza crust cone filled with cheese and topped with some pizza sauce and parmesan cheese. I ate it by nibbling around the edges licking the sauce so it didn't spill. Once the sauce was out of the way I just started eating it in large bites. It definitely tastes fulfilling. It doesn't seem like it will but it does for a little bit.

So these two items are my new favorite things in the park. These are relatively cheap complex snacks. This is something that will hopefully catch on throughout the park. I really like the inclusion of more complex snacks instead of just generic popcorn and churros. It makes the food seem more unique and much more diverse. We need to broaden the snack offerings.

Restaurant: Das Edelweiss (during CT at The North Pole in Germany)
Meal: Chicken & Funnel Cake
Price: $7.99

Pros: Ever heard of chicken and waffles? Well, this is the BGW spin on that. You essentially get about half of a funnel cake, along with five'ish chicken fingers (some chunkier than others) along with your choice of syrup or spicy honey hot sauce. I tried both. You can NEVER go wrong with some good syrup, but let me say that the honey sauce really added some pep to an already great-tasting meal. It was very filling and satisfying. Though it is also most certainly very high-calorie, I planned my eating schedule around getting this at the park so that in the end it all balances out (hopefully).

Cons: High-calorie; but what isn't at a theme park? Stomach may gurgle a bit later after eating. Tongue

Recommended: Absolutely! The must-try meal of the season!!

*No fork needed.
