At a glance I was not sure whether they were media event swag or a souvenir collection sold in the park.  Either way, there are some good images in there.

I gave the gift of a slide scanner to a family member last year.  Coincidentally I am seeing said family member this weekend.  If I can remember to do so, I will scan the slides and put them up here.

I cant wait to see them if you remember!

Looks like the exact date is 1993, and many of the slides appear unrecoverable. Not sure whether that damage occurred before or after I received them, as I never looked at them at that time.

But there are four that I can work with, titled:

1. Haunts of the Olde Country
2. Drachen Fire Roller Coaster
3. Roman Rapids
4. Rhine River

Images to come as technology and short-term memory permit...

Okay, here they are.  Some good, some meh, one slightly bizarre.  After substantial experimentation, this was the best I could get in terms of crispness and color from the four recoverable slides.  They were either degraded by time and storage, or just not that great to start with.

All images circa 1993 or earlier.  Imgur gallery is here with larger images that really make it obvious how far gone the slides were.

1. Drachen Fire.  Still has its full set of corkscrews in this image.  The cork being strenuously navigated by the train is the one that will be removed within a couple of years of this photo (i.e., after the '94 season). Such a great looking ride; I found it enjoyable enough although it was never one of my favorites. Not pictured is the Kingsmill resident 1/4-mile behind the photographer, muttering about the noisy contraption disturbing his afternoon on the porch of the home he recently bought knowing full well there was a gigantic theme park next door.

2. Roman Rapids.  Looks like the waterfalls are in full effect here.  As are the early 1990s! We have come full circle on those big glasses and plaid shirts, yet it is still evident that this image is from decades ago.

3. Busch Gardens Railway and Rhine River Cruise.  This image, mundane though it may be, was tough to get.  Color slides that feature such changes in brightness from area to area can be nearly impossible to transfer well using basic tools bought cheaply from Amazon.  To get this one I took 7 different images of different portions of the slide at different exposure levels, then created a composite "panorama" by using (read: abusing) Picasa and its surprisingly capable Microsoft ICE add-in, which more or less accidentally managed to balance the section-by-section levels while unnecessarily stitching everything together.  This was as good as it was going to get. Saved by software!

4. Haunts of the Olde Country. I had to save this one for last, as it really has me wondering who decided this shot should be the one chosen to represent "Haunts" in the slide deck. This slide was nearly impossible to capture due to brightness challenges, and shares the fuzziness of the entire set. But as for the actual content of the source photo... there's so much to say about this one. I don't even want to get started. Just ... enjoy.

I sincerely apologize for the quality of this EURONEWS but my scanner is broken so I had to take photos. Anyways, this is the Spring 2008 EURONEWS sent out to pass members during the off-season.
